"Potential" year. Most of those movies have a lot of hype surrounding them, and (hopefully not) they're could be a lot of let downs.

Out of the movies listed, I'd only be interested in the new Batman.

Batman, The Hobbit and maybe Star Trek

For me I'd really only be interested in MIB, Batman & Startrek. The others I either havent heard anything about or just wouldnt be interested.

Not one of those movies would I pay to see TBH.

That's quite a terrible list of films tbh.

Someone is reading too much Empire and not watching enough good films.

Cant wait for batman and star trek

I'm sure there'll be better films out that year, but I'll still go and see all of those. It's a great time if you're a comicbook fan.

    Snobby much?

I don't see the problem in enjoying studio tentpoles and summer blockbusters with a bag of popcorn. I can do that and enjoy watching my DVDs of Le Salaire De La Peur or The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp thank you very much.

Oh, and I don't read Empire.

I'm not being snobby, it's just that majority of studio films have an awful lot of hype and turn out to be absolute ****e.

If this was 2008 you would probably be telling us about Terminator Salvation, Transformers 2, Wolverine and Public Enemies.

Studios are churning out crap lately, haven't seen anything worth while since The Dark Knight probably and that's over two years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

if the dark knight was the last worth while film you saw then why would you have no interest in the next installment? also there have been good movies released since then. inception was probably better than the dark knight for one

ill probably watch Star Trek, Batman, Superman, & The Hobbit. the rest dont have any of my interest

Jesus, what's with the negativity. The dude's just expressing being excited to watch some films, which is too rare around these parts. Like the "right" way to be is a grumpy misanthropic old fart!!

Only excited by The Hobbit from that list, hopefully there's a few more interesting choices in 2012 apart from that lot!

Fine, if I am being negative....

Someone name 10 really great big studio films from the last 2 years (09/10).

    I'm just being realistic.

    It's not Spiderman 4 either, it's a reboot.

drag me to hell, zombieland, sherlock holmes, watchmen, star trek, up, the hangover, moon, the hurt locker, 500 days of summer, district 9, kick-ass, exit through the gift shop, harry brown, toy story 3, shutter island, inception

they might not be ground breakingly good but there is clearly at least some worth while viewing there.

A lot of the films that you mentioned are made on quite small budgets.
    500 Days of Summer - $7.5 million
    Moon - $5 million
    Harry Brown - $7.3 million
The Hurt Locker - $15 million

Can't find one for exit through the gift shop, but it is certainly not a big studio film.

These are films that find it hard to get funding due to everyone going to see crappy blockbusters with names of characters they know.

If I compare that to the budget of say Spider Man 3 ($258 million) or even Star Trek ($150 million) you see how these are basically just small indie films in comparison.

That's the tag line from "Waiting To Exhale", right?

Jeez, why is he getting a slating for looking forward to those movies? Did I miss something that people who look forward to the bigger films are somewhat stupid and tasteless?

Anywho, currently Batman 3 and The Hobbit (if it makes it on time) are the only big films I'm looking forward to. Obviously there'll be smaller films that'll come along and trump the majority of the bigger ones. Batman 3 being the main one for me because of Nolan, Newton-Smith and Zimmer will hopefully deliver another fine collaboration.

I never look forward to summer movies, the hype is unreal and then come August / September everyone looks back and says: "Well, that was a shìt summer bar <1 - 2 movies>"

This summer was bland, bland, bland. Inception being the most enjoyable film I've had in the cinema, The Expendables broke my heart, Iron Man 2 was just ok, The A-Team was "meh", Predators was alright but having watched it again I can't help but notice it was more of a remake of the 1st film than it's own.

If anything, a little 25 year old film about a kid who hangs around with an old man and travels back in time with a Delorean was probably the most fun I've had in the cinema in ages :pac:

That's the pooooooooower of love..........da doo doo da.....

even taking those few movies out there are still plenty of films there to disprove any nonsense about no worth while films being made. how you could see a 15million dollar budget as small is quite laughable however. a small budget is clerks or monsters or something similar

I can't wait for The Hobbit,I've been hoping for the last 5 years that there'd be one. Also Batman and Spiderman,I still love Spiderman films even if they aren't the greatest examples of cinematic genius.

Pity they aren't being brought out next year so we'll be alive at least.

    sequels, remakes and reboots

same malaise thats affecting the game industry at the moment

too much money involved and its strangling the creativity out of the medium

    getting kinda sick of it

I said they were small budgets in comparison to films like Spiderman 3 and Star Trek.

$258 million is a bit different to $5 million....

Expensive trailers for future video games!

    Battleship

Just reading on Wikipedia, the fountain of knowledge, that the budget for this film is 200 million  and it has Liam Neeson in it! Putting money on this one being a major flop.

Bit unfair to label a Christopher Nolan film as such!
