WHAT IS IT? We're on the brink of lunch time and still no email from SU. Presumably hung over to bits from the massive piss up (on us btw) down in Balbriggan. I've barely picked up enough change from the floors in lectures today for a roll in Londis.

/aside: €1 off Large slices off pizza in Ray's this week.

Tasty pasties. Haven't been there since last Christmas, might try it later in the week.

    Did they ever?

Apparently you could get plain-ish pasta and salad in the first place... with wine.

Didn't go though, because THE SU ARE PRICKS.

Why bother? You're too weak and malnourished to put up any sort of decent fight.

Sure, weren't those pasties only mighty.

They couldn't be much worse than that shambolic Chinese deal last week that's for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

First deal was the best. It's gone downhill since then.

A pastie? PASTIE?? That's not lunch.

Well, from what I've been told before they should be, miners used to spend hours working with just a pastie for nutrition. That said I'd wager that these ones are a lot smaller.

Yeah but the 15 pints of plain every evening probably kept them on a calorie surplus.

    Delicious pasty was delicious.

Had a ham and cheese one. Was alright for €2.50, but wasn't madly impressed. Anyone suggest a better one to try?

Best deal was definitely the first one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

I heard tell the chicken tikka is good. I got a cheese and mushroom one (in absence of the broccoli and sweetcorn one :/), it was rather cheesy. Still, hot food for €2.50 is pretty good.

Which one was that? Was there one before Ray's Pizza?

Mona Lisa Bistro, any main course + soft drink for €5.

    Nice pizza :)

This week's SU deal is a massive lunch from Bia Bar on Lower Stephens Street...Toasted Sandwich, Fries and the Soup of the Day for €5 (they're usually €10!)...

    Eww, soup, yuck.

How about toasted sandwich for €1.50? Who the hell wants "fries" and soup as well for lunch? 5 quid is more than I'd be paying for lunch anyway ...

    Fries, yuck. :/

Good value though, could go halvsies with someone and still be reasonably well fed.

I'll have the soup Tuesday and Thursday. Swap on Wednesday and Friday. We can split the fries.

    DEAL.

Stay away from the Bia Bar "deal" this week, it's feckin awful.

The SU email said you get "Toasted Sandwich, Fries and the Soup of the Day for €5 (they're usually €10!) Soft Drinks will also be reduced to €1.50."

Now that sounds great but what you actually get is: A tiny untoasted sandwich, soup and... some ready salted crisps!(and not even that many) They try to pass of the crisps by calling them "Kettle Chips".

Seriously not worth a fiver, much better deals elsewhere.

Jeez, sure in the buttery you can get a full meal for a fiver.

Carvery and a drink for 6. Looks like a cracker!

SU need to hook up with Subway on Nassau St. If I could get a chicken tikka sub for a reasonable price any day of the week I would probably OD on the stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 945 ✭✭✭gearoidof

They do a €4 footlong in the subway off Merrion Square

    Yup, weekdays.

No, SU need to hook up with Pablo Picantes on Baggot Street. YUM!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 945 ✭✭✭gearoidof

    Whoa!

Pablo picantes is the most expensive of the big 4 burrito places but is still worse than Boojum's and Burrito and Blues. (4th is Taco Taco)

Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but whoa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

    Free Irish Times! Deadly.

I've had too many Longstone platters in my life already though, to appreciate this week's deal.

That's not the first time I've heard of that. You really do need to get there by 1700 if you want to be sure of getting a footlong.

€5 for a single trip to the buffet at the Mongolian BBQ in Temple Bar, not too bad.

Interesting how since my (college)username is towards the end of the alphabet, I seem to only get these mass emails around midnight, after everyone else has apparently got them.

Email hasn't been sent out yet.

Either Baza is an SU hack, and thus has advance notice, or he's just mentioning a deal that's there anyway

    Ok, got the SU Deal:

    Deal of the Week
    Auld Dubliner: Temple Bar

All main courses (bar steak) plus "cordial" are €5 from 12-6

    SU shop deal is:
    U food sandwich + U food crips for €2
€1 Coke bottle deal is still on

I'm going to ignore their "deal-icious" pun...
