    Hi All,

I'm buying a Nissan Almera 2001 with 46k miles and never replaced the timing belt.

how much would it cost and when should it be changed ?

    thanks

there is no belt in an almera, its a timing chain. The chain has a habit of stretching which is a common problem with the N16E Almera, which can cause erratic running and hunting

Beaten to it by TheDonald! The chains usually stretch because of poor maintenance tho, ie wrong oil, or too long of an oil change interval. In fairness, them almeras are a fairly reliable car, but not too frugal on the juice, and a tad dull. The 1.8 primera is a way nicer bus, uses less juice(40+mpg possible) and is a pokier yoke(ier).

really ?.... Is this is a good news ? do I need to change the timing belt ?

I do not know nothing about motors... the any garage could charge me as they want !!!!

so this is an Almera of 2001, 1.4...

Also those Almera do not have timing belt ?

    thanks again !

Like they said, it doesn't have a timing belt. It has a chain. Chains are supposed to be maintenance free. Also, afaik the smallest petrol engine in 2001 Almeras was a 1.5, not a 1.4.
