exercise advice needed thanks

    Hi guys

    Sorry wrong section I know, mods feel free to move. I have two smallies and I really can't go to the gym or practice any kind of sports regularly without costing me a fortune in childcare fees so I was thinking of getting and exercise bike and jump on it perhaps 3 times a week or so. How does this sound as an exercise regime for now? I am a woman, 39, no health issues that I know off and no weight issues, just looking to get a bit fitter and you know, do that necessary exercise to be in good health and all that. I know the bike is not ideal but at the moment can't think of much better options. Or would I be better off getting like a bunch of weights or whatever and do weights in the house?

    I'll say again I know I am in the wrong section but could not find the right one and I know that people in here know so much about exercise as well.

    I used to use this dvd and found it great, you'll need some dumbbells and an exercise mat. It's only 22 mins but it's bloody hard work & I found it really helped change my shape, even only doing it every 2nd day.

    Another option for you might be to a buy a couple of kettlebells in a few different sizes. You could do a course like this one http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/workshops to learn the different exercises. Kettlebells take up a lot less space than an exercise bike too!

    Id seconds the kettlebells workshop. I did it. And for 65e for 3.5hrs, your own kettlebell and a training manual, you would almost be stupid not too!

    The bike is a good option, worked really well for me. You can pick one up for not too much (Argos have a good range.) watch TV and it made a huge improvement to my overall heart and cardio function. Many are fairly light so they can packed (or even just moved) away when not in use.

    In addition I would consider some resistance training to supplement this. Dumbells worked for me, verstile and typically small. Kettlbells are an option but the swinging aspect wouldn't of worked for me in my living room. A small set of something or modular so you can interchange weights is good because you will quickly be able to lift heavier after a short while and a 'fixed' weight has a limited lifespan.

    I'm a male, but years ago when my kids arrived I got a treadmill and it was a fantastic investment. A bike might even be better, depending on your finances as it is probably 20% of the price. 30 mins a few times a week, even while watching TV, will work out well. But make sure you get your heart rate up and not just go through the motions.

    Thanks everybody for your advice. I think the bike would work out better for me than any of the workouts etc mostly because they require some attention between changing exercises etc whereas the bike I just jump on it, stay there for a half hour and that's it. Also I was looking at the argos catalogue and it seems that a cross-trainer offers a more complete workout? I have a stepper at home, not the same thing I know but I think I will try to use it for a few times a weak first to make sure I stay committed to it before I make financial investment and if it works ok for me I think I might buy a cross-trainer....

    Would defo try a x-trainer before you buy. I find the bike great but cross trainers awful. Just one of those things. There are also a bit bigger. If you have the room then no issues...
