No seat belt fine and points

I was stopped yesterday for not wearing a seatbelt. Garda told me I would get 2 points and an €80 fine. I also didn't have my licence with me (which happens to be a UK one). She simply wrote all my details in her notebook, including my address here in Ireland.

Do Guards not give out proper dockets on the spot or does this come in the post later?

nope, goes into the notebook and the ticket is generated electronically by computer. you should get it in about 10 days.

    why?

Because the Irish government can't impose points on a foreign licence.

To be safe I'd drop into a Garda station produce all your documents saying where and when you where stopped and get a Pulse reference number. Don't want to get a summons through the door for non producing in a few months time.

And if they convert their UK licence to an Irish one at any time in the future they will have 2 penalty points on it.

In order to get one you have to reside in the UK

Got stopped twice in the last 2 years, once for seal belt and the other time for been on a phone. Guard wrote it all down, said i would be getting a fine and points. To date I have heard nothing further so you might be lucky.

Right,so i could head to GB,contact swansea, send them my irish licence, fill out the necessary paperwork and have my new UK licence back in whatever length of time it takes, probably have it returned in under 2 weeks.
Now if someone didnt want to go to the Uk,they could ask a family member or cousin,as every irish person has a cousin in The UK:D, To send me the paperwork,i fill it out, forward it to my cousin who in turns forwards it to swansea and hey presto!when the wheel has spun,i have A brand new UK licence that i can use in EIRE and the Irish courts cant put points on my licence for unknown reasons. Unbelievable

This seems like a painless and rewarding move to make for someone who has accumulated points and is in danger of getting an automatic ban.

To obtain a UK licence, you need to be resident in the UK.

To be resident in the UK, you need to live at an address there for a certain amount of time each year.

It doesn't count if your cousin/brother/father in law/bank manager's mistress lives there.

If you swap the licence over to an Irish one at some point in the future the points will be waiting for you then. Not sure if there is a time limit on this.

No time limit, they create a ghost Irish licence with points on it. If the OP, or anyone caught for a PP offence on a foreign licence, ever changes to an Irish licence they will have the PPs for 3 years from date of issue.
