Ireland has a pretty impressively wide range of accents. There is so many that I can't count them all - if I tried, which I haven't. Anyway, theres a girl in my new college I'm trying to warm my self to and she's got a Cork accent *I think*. Its really sexy!

This got me thinking....What Irish accents do you find attractive? Theres at least 3 Dublin accents, Northerners, Corkonians etc.

Do you like your own accent? People in your neighbourhood etc.

    Ready, set...GO!

Can't really think of any I like, but I'm from Donegal so not really one to chat.

Anyway, I quite like the Norn Iron accent, really hate the Dublin accent.

I am a kerry woman with a kerry accent I do find men with a kerry accent attractive sometimes not the farmer types though. Don't always find the cork accent attractive unless he is from the city. Some dublin accents are attractive more so the south than north. I do like other accents from munster and leinster though depends on the county ;)!

But I live in Dublin and I think Munster accents are the best. Obviously it depends on the speakers voice but ideally

    Scottish!

Sorry, I now know you meant Irish accents only. The title was a bit ambiguous. Maybe south Dublin.

    Love the Donegal accents, swoon!

    Don't like my own accent.
Ever meet a garda checkpoint and they say "well" and "veh-ick-el"?
They pick up a lot of things in Templemore in North Tipp

Hate the howiya Jaaaaaaacinta Dublin accent, nothing more unattractive.

But the thread title is on attractive accents so I answered it

Galway (city/town, not county) is the only nice accent in the Republic. It's jsut so neutral. Every other one sounds horrible on the ear.
The Northern Irish accent is delicious to listen to!

    Only joking.

    None of them really.

I am a kerry woman with a kerry accent I do find men with a kerry accent attractive sometimes not the farmer types though. ;)!

I bloody hate the Kerry accent for some reason! I'm from Kerry too but don't have an accent at all. People (especially guests in the hotel I work in) always ask where I am from because of my accent. It should be a mixture of Irish, French and English. But err..I dunno.

I suppose the Donegal accent is ok now thinking about it. In other news South African accents..swoon! And I think I am the only person in the world that finds German accents attractive. Ha!

I love me a midlands accent, the ones that aren't too strong but have a distinctive lilt to them.

Also, an ex/it's-complicated scenario I have is from Kilkenny and his accent makes me swoon. It's a bit more neutral than the norm and flat as fcuk and just so hot!

Not a big fan of the Dub or Cork accents, they don't do anything for me. Galway's a sweet accent, though the city accent and the more neutral speakers! Love the idioms...'pure sound, like!'

I love the cork accent. Did anyone ever find the whispering cork accent? Well it sounds as if they're whispering anyway, love the accent. Really does make me go weak at the knees.

Oh I absolutely love culchie accents like Tipperary! I don't know why but I could just listen to it all day!

Culchie Kerry accents like Daithi O'Sé get me too! Mmmmmmm! :D

    Nordy accent for the win.

    So dirty. So sing-songy. Mrow.

And the Connemara accent! *swoon*

The sexiest accents are Donegal and Monaghan, well any of the northern accents.

The worst accent is definitely Carlow, it's awful!

Donegal accents are unbelievably sexy. Christ I still fantasize about a guy from Donegal I was in love with when I was 14. I'm also very partial to nice Dublin accents. I cannot stand thick Cork accents though.

I'm pretty sure it's not Cork no on thinking about it....maybe Tipp. Can't say I like Nordy accents though. Actually, I can say I don't like them. Not as bad as Dub CC though.

I'm weird in that I have a bit of a flat/no accent (I went to boarding school from young so lived with people from all over for years, hence no accent) but when I get annoyed or hyper there's a definite Kildare/midlands lilt to it.

And I LOVE the Ballyfermot type accent... I guess I like a bit of rough ;)

    Also: Donegal: Good GOD yes!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭Sardonicat

A proper Dub accent does it for me. Not either extreme of the D4 (makes my ears bleed!) or the "staarry buud?" Just a lovely Dub accent, yum!

I'm from kerry, some of the accents here (we have a few) are lovely, some awful.

I've got a weird accent, people here say it's English (was born there and moved here when I was nine). When I'm in England I'm told I've got a lovely Irish accent! Can't win

I'm told I don't have a distinctive accent, just that it's definitely "Irish" whatever that may mean! I'm from Cavan though, so I think that's a good thing ;)

I do love the Donegal accent, it has a lovely lilting quality to it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭Sardonicat

Donegal seems to be winning this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭christina_x

    Any proper Irishy accent!
Dont judge me... but the roscommon accent.. like the proper bogger, putting "s" where it doesnt belong, accent!:D

further south you go the better imo!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 688 ✭✭✭lalee17

    Definitely anywhere up north. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,485 ✭✭✭✭Ickle Magoo

A well spoken dublin accent is lovely - not skangerese and not the D4 put on marbles in mouth mind, well spoken but not afflicted... :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,288 ✭✭✭pow wow

Nice middle of the road Dublin accent for me ;)

Mine has been described as a bit Irish, a bit English and a bit Dog the Bounty Hunter so I'm not really in a position to judge :P

Yeah, I'm suprised at this. The only Donegal accents I can think of are Daniel and Shay Given. And since I'm not gay, I can't really comment. Any women I can have a listen to with a Donegal accent?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭Censorsh!t

I'm from Cork myself. I like some local accents, not the northside one really though.

Dylan Moran's accent is my absolute favourite, jesus, if I could find someone with that accent, i'd marry them.
Also love the nortgern irish accent.

I'm half Offalian, dont really mind the accent... or the mad phrases

I love Northern accents, they have a lovely ring to them. :P Dublin accent too, my boyfriend is from Tallaght...STARRY!

The Tralee accent is nothing short of stunning :p

I don't know that it's sexy per se, but I always find the North Tipp accent great fun to listen to:p

Give me a Cork accent any day. It's so upbeat and attractive.

Unfortunately, its also very addictive so I find myself subconsciously adopting it when speaking to Cork people. I know there are a few different Cork accents but they are all good.

Never met a Corkman who's accent I didn't find attractive.

    Another vote for Donegal here....

Seeing as they seem to be in the lead, for anyone who wants a listen, this was the best example I could find:

Can't say there's any I like but I do know I can't stand any Nothern Irish accent esp Belfast and Derry just wreck my head.

Donegal, Tyrone, Cavan, Monaghan, and Meath are quiet nice.

Was never a big fan of Irish accents to be honest but have seen some nice Cork ones though. As for Dublin meh! nothing special. Northern all they way :D

i do like most regional accents ive a bit of a mongrel one being from another country and lived in 3 different counties, and i hate hearing playback of my voice .

i would love to have a donegal accent, or galway one if i had to pick me a new one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,349 ✭✭✭✭starlit

I quiet like the galway and killkenny accent. Now I'm not a mad fan of the cork accent but the city one isn't too bad but the country cork accent can get irritating sounds like a traveler talking french. Anyways, I really don't like the donegal accent though, the louth accent is a bit funny. The belfast accent isn't too bad though. I'm from kerry but don't like all the kerry accents, the townies are fine or real flat kerry accents or those from the gealtacht have lovely accents its the really countryish and farmer accents that irritates me sometimes. Sometimes it sounds like they are speaking another language! Wouldn't mind most of the dublin and limerick accents though.

I'm from Kildare, but I don't think I have a Kildare accent. Does Kildare even have an accent? I dunno. Do I like my accent? Sure, why not!

My favourite accent is probably, oh, I don't know. I like Irish spoken by native speakers, so...

The amount of times I used the word accent in this post! :pac:

    No one for Sligo then?

I wouldn't be partial to it myself either.

    Cork for me :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭shrewd

Yep, Cork all the way for me. Their accent is amazingly beautiful no matter who is speaking it, male or female.

Also, like the northern accent; cavan, Donegal, monaghan. they do amazing things with their tongues while speaking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭obliviousgrudge

Wow, never knew so many people liked the Donegal accent

I find the Cork accent quite nice!

Northern accents are like nails on a chalk board to me! *Shudder*

I quiet like the galway and killkenny accent.

The Kilkenny accent varies quite alot depending on which part of the county someone's from! Maybe I just think/hear that because I'm from there?

My English neice informs me that the Kerry accent makes her go weak at the knees.
