when choosing headphones, how cool and wicked they look is definitely very low on my list of demands, sound quality and durability would be top, with comfort up there as well

Yeah, if you're a bulimic midget called Stacey! I'm going with Lethal Bullet on this one. Black Headphones went out of style on 18 August this year. Crossfader LPs in chrome are going to be the way to go for Autumn/Winter 2010 if you're vogueing it around town.

(Just for the record for all you no=fashionistas without an ounce of fierceness, vogueing came back into style on 23 September this year. Only guys as stylish as this can vogue: http://dublinstreets.blogspot.com/2010/10/dublin-streets-exhibition-offset-party_05.html. You saw it here first)

    Sennheiser HD 650's.
Cost a packet, but sound quality is studioesque with the right amp.

I've my skullcandys since the beginning of the year, and not a spot of bother with them to be honest!

And I personally think the Sk Pro's are on par with Sony mdrv700 sound!

I was just about to say that, if you want "cool" looking headphones you're already getting off on the wrong, well, everything.

Next you'll be saying that the music is the most important thing. Some skewed thinking going on here. The most important thing when getting headphones is whether they are going to clash with your three quarter length trousers and loafers with no socks look. Everybody knows that.

Save the insults and grow up:mad:, if you knew anything about djn in a club you would know its sound quailty and comfort that matters

agreed that its not a fashion show but I'll re-iterate that I have a pair of functional headphones and now just looking for something dacent for about the town!

a mate of mine got a pair of those beats by dre for 140 over in heathrow airport, any one got any reports on em? Ive heard they are ridiculiously over priced (surprise surprise) but monster beats make some nifty headphones!

Of course it's about the fashion. If you don't look cool how are the punters supposed to respect you.

Best headphones out there are the Sennheiser HD25 and the Technics RPDZ 1200

I've used both the Pioneer hdj1000 and the Sony mdr-v700 and had nothing but problems with them

Pioneer headphones - way overpriced, decent sound but not built to last - the headband broke on me during a gig, and a i know of a few dj's who bought these and had the same problem. plus the little wire that connected bot left speaker through the head band kept getting exposed and always getting caught in something.

Sony mdr-v 700 - great sounding headphones. very heavy so if you are used to sennheisers you will get a creak in your neck. the rotating sills along the cups crack exposing the wires, again a jock i work with has these and i pointed this out to him and he never noticed. i went through 2 pairs of these within 2 years but always kept the receipt and brought them back to the sony center

Best thing about the sennheisers is that every part on it is replaceable.

The technics ones are a bit of a fashion thing but they do sound great and i have had them over 2 1/2 years and not one problem with them

Musicman, you have it all wrong. Bazmo was just trying to point out that if you stand like this:

    IMG_9326_geddem.jpg

It doesn't matter what the sound quality is like you'll look awesome and interesting and the girls will think you're deep. Total win!

    Personally I use these:

    and these:

Because I'm like hey convention, I'm flaunting you.

So if its not about the fashion why dont you use your functional headphones you already own.the beats by dre are just as big as normal dj headphones.

Personally i think its **** clichéd to have beats by dre headphones.

So lets not kid ourselves you want fashionable headphones to be fashionable

Bazmo would want to watch the insults, not here to take that s***t, fair enough if they are for personal use around the house or town, but for djn its about sound quailty and comfort and im sure plenty of dj's will agree with me, if your just djn for the women, says it all really

I ask you, How long are you djn?
I've been DJing (or as I like to call it "Picking up Women") for around 15 years now.

and what style of music do you play?
Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Guetta, etc. All the stuff that gets the women shaking their booty's on the dancefloor basically.

Spot on man. I got to tell you some of the dance hop music I hear is pretty boring and repetitive and you zone out after a while. So while all that's going on in the background, I'd take my time out to practice looking good for the crowd with my headphones tilted at a slight angle like a beret and a fetching neon t-shirt with some band on it that was probably popular in the eighties or something.

I'm only an aspiring dj at the moment but I think once I get the look down I'll be sorted. I'll just use my laptop because that'll be a piece of piss.

Seriously dude, it's all about the image nowadays, especially if you want to succeed.

Exactly, as long as your getting the women, and more importantly, looking good while doing it, well then you're doing the right thing.

If you want to be all serious about music and stuff, join a band, or write for Hotpress

Nah, that wouldn't be my style at all if I was djing. I'd play future retro stuff which is stuff that you think in the future will be retro, which is basically playing today's music like Susan Boyle and The Script ironically.

See that's the thing that I find the hardest about DJing, trying to figure out what's the coolest music to play. It's too difficult so that's why I just stick to the women and the fashion.

And as you've said already, if you use your laptop you don't even have to worry about the mixing or any of that unnecessary stuff as the laptop does it all for you.

Love my Sennheiser HD-25 I's and after a couple of years of heavy use the lead needs replacing lately, its down to just one ear (luckily the one I mix with ;))

Ive looked at this lead as a replacement http://www.thomann.de/ie/sennheiser_hd25_spsp_ii_ersatzkabel.htm and I was wondering has anyone taken their Sennheisers apart and successfully put a new lead in. This model has the lead glued into the band across the top and looks like it could be hassle as a DIY job. I usually just replace the whole set every 3 years or so.

    Cheers

    Hi Jason,

I've my HD25's for over a decade now i think - afaik the lead that feeds into the headband is just clipped in not glued. split and open up the headband and you should see the cable recessed inside the band. it should be easy to pull out and replace.

if they are glued they must have been a recent purchase by your good self and sennheiser have moved the goalposts a little by gluing them in.

I've replace leads on other models of sennheisers that i went through over the years and i had no problems what so ever.

I think you can get a better deal online possibly flea-bay than what thomman are doing - don't forget to add €15 postage if you do go with the Germans

I recently went through the process of replacing a faulty lead on a HD25-1 II and it was really easy - the hardest part was paying €30 for a new fricking cable  There are only a couple of tiny screws to undo and no glue, the cable just pops right out from the headband.
