Getting BTEA/dole during the summer in Europe

I was just wondering if it is possible to claim the dole in Europe when on the dole for the summer from the BTEA? I know that you can get 12 to 14 weeks paid while looking for a job in the EU, I'm just wondering if this applies to BTEA.

You cannot claim BTEA during the summer. You need to switch to jobseekers assistance which cannot be claimed from abroad.

Only people on Jobseekers benefit can claim the dole while jobseeking abroad. I assume you're not eligible for JB.

I was on JB until getting BTEA. I have 4 years worth of stamps. I assume I go back onto this when I get summer holidays, so its still the same question, can I get this abroad during summer?

    5. I’m getting Jobseeker’s Benefit. Can I transfer it to my country?

Jobseeker’s Benefit (JB) may be transferred to another EEA member state for up to 13 weeks, if you are looking for work there. You must be getting JB for at least 4 weeks before the date of your departure; you may still be allowed to transfer your payment if you get a written letter from FÁS stating that you are unlikely to secure full-time employment in this country in the foreseeable future. You can get a completed Form E303 from your local social welfare office and you must take it to the social services of the country you are travelling to.

Note: If you transfer your Jobseeker’s Benefit payment to another country and stay abroad for longer than 13 weeks you will lose your entitlement to it if you return to Ireland. You will need to apply for a means tested payment instead.

I have little experience with the social welfare office, however if I was the welfare officer i would be a bit sceptical about someone on btea trying to spend the summer abroad to job hunt. it might be construed as spending the summer travelling.

That would be the idea. I can't see much chance of getting a job here, and with my course I might get better experience abroad. Either way I'll be getting money from the government for the summer. Thanks for the heads up, I'd love to hear from someone who has tried this.
