    jumps-2010-2011-flash-1.gif

I haven't done this competition yet because i haven't been involved in racing for very long but with a couple of flat seasons behind me and one jumps I reckon I'm ready to take it on!

It'd be good to get a sticky thread going for everyone who enters and get a bit of horsey banter going in the forum.

The Racing Post do a bit of a Guide here which should change to the jumps in a week or two. The link might change though...

theres some seriously good prizes but theres also an entry fee of about £10Gbp. It gives great continuity to the season and a bit of healthy competition.

Details become available from the 21st of October and the competition starts on the 12th of November so get busy picking your ten.

    @ Convert:
Is there a way to link a thread in one forum to another forum? This is difficult with the HR and Gambling forums...ideas?

    This looks strangely familiar...

A crowd of us in the pub do it every year amongst ourselves, €25 each, usually about 25-30 entries. We use the official points from the ttf. It's great when everybody knows each other and also the chance of prizemoney is more realistic than the real thing.
I always enter the real thing too btw, just in case!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I reckon we'll do the same for Boards if there's enough of us. €25 seems a good price but I'd prefer not to price students out of it.

I read today that Donn McClean won the TTF Flat 2010. £51,000 the lucky fooker.

The flat dividends are tiny compared to the national hunt, 250k was first prize last season.

You can set up a mini league through the website which we can all join. I have had pretty average efforts the last five years to this is the one!

Here's the details in case people don't want to be going onto gambling sites in work or if it's blocked.

Yayyy for the jumps being back at last.

Few weeks to go before entries so best to wait to see how the Paddy Power entries are shaping up, Long Run is prominent in the betting and would be very interesting as would Somersby.

As regards the other bonus races

Kauto Star will be very hard to beat in the King George again.

Master Minded is still the best 2 mile chaser around with a bit of cut although Tataniano looked very good indeed at Aintree and if he progresses a bit could be top drawer.

Big Bucks will top some stopping in 3m hurdle races again as will Binocular in 2m races.

Hopefully Mikael D'haguenet will return from his injury in good shape and could run up a sequence in novice chases on his way to the RSA.

Id avoid Imperial Commander, can see him struggling this season.

    Last years leading horses.

It's never as straight forward as picking the leading contenders.

Agreed, did you read the interview Nigel Twiston Davies gave the other day regarding his horse? Apparently he has nothing to prove but Kauto and Denman do. Plonker.

I can't say I'd endorse IC as a selection in the TTF but he was the best horse in the race at Cheltenham last year....by some way. I'd consider picking him if I knew he wasn't going to Kempton

Nulty is there going to be a mini private league?

I did, him and Brennan are living in a dream world as regards that horse i think.

Best on the day for certain as he was a very good winner.

Would i take him against Kauto Star in any race this season, not on your life.

I wouldn't have him within 20 pounds of Kauto on his day. At least 20

I'm a TTF virgin so I'm not expecting to do very well. I could get lucky though! I haven't registered yet, I've had a rough betting weekend so just counting my beans...Will probably do two lists. I hear most people do a few, is that right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Sorry guys, I even saw this a few week ago and forgot:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

I havent registered yet as I want to have a good look.

Regarding Imperial Commander, I reckon he will win the Betfair and the Gold Cup and would not rule him out of the King George.

I will probably start with IC and Big Bucks and go from there.

Is Arvika Ligeonniere going chasing this year does anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

The Racing Post guide to the jumps just says he is likely to go novice chasing, I would say he is too but have not heard of Mullins saying it so far, you looking at the 16/1 quote for the Arkle too?

I was considering him for the TTF. I'd like to see him jump a fence before though a bet or using him in the comp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭meriwether

I had a look at this for the first time properly last night. Hers my initial selection, am unsure about one or two.

1: Binocular. Banker par excellence. Targets: Fighting 5th, Xmas hurdle, Champion H.

    2: Kauto. King George/Gold Cup.

3: Albertas Run: Ryanair, various races on the way.

4: Masterminded. Tingle, Queen mum. Forgotten horse to an extent, would hammer the rest of them if he was on song, has had a wind op and is only 7.

5: Hurricane Fly. Irish Champion Hurdle, expect him to dominate this side of the water. Would have had Go Native, but won't be reappearing for a while, may transfer him in after Christmas for the CH.

6: Big Bucks. World Hurdle, and various good races along the way (Long walk, etc)

7: Zaynar. Same as Big Bucks, there may be enough stayer hurdles in the run up to C'ham to keep them apart and farm the proceeds. I'd be getting rid of one of them after Xmas quite possibly if one is clearly outperforming the other.

8: Long Run. Hennessy, King George, GC. I need a nag for the early season handicaps, and in my opinion there is nothing classy in the Paddy Power that could go on and win graded races. I expect the winner of the PP to probably be handicapped out of it once he wins. LR looks potentially classy enough. He's also having 5 pounds deducted because of Jockey in Hennessy.

9: Celestial Halo. Novice chasing route. Possible Arkle or RSA.

    10: Punjabi. See Celestial Halo.

I have nothing for the National, the Totesport or the Racing post.

I also think I may have to decide between Celestial Halo and punjabi, and slot in a non-novice Irish chaser for this side of the water.

I also think I may stick in Imperial Commander for Kauto after Xmas specifically for the Gold Cup. Kauto won't be turning the tables IMO.

    Anyone any thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭meriwether

Edit: I'm probably going to lash in Cooldine for the Irish Hennessy instead of Punjabi or Zaynar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭RichieLawlor

Long Run runs in the PP this weekend not the Hennessy.

Leave out Celestial Halo, big big chance he won't be making up into a chaser. Nicholls has already said he's not an arkle horse.

Punjabi the same, horses who spend a good few years hurdling don't generally make up into top notch chasers (see Iris' Gift or even Harchibald) they spend too long learning to be quick over hurdles to be effective chasers.

Binocular Kauto and Big Bucks are must haves.

I'd be looking for something like Medermit or Cue Card, potentially top class and will
Pick up a few races on there way to the festival.

Yes, got my elbow and arse mixed up there.

LR is the only one that strikes me as classy enough from the PP to win a graded race. Henderson was all over him in the stable tour this week in RP.

I won't have anything for the Hennessy, so I think i need something for this handicap.

Regarding Punjabi and CH, hands up, its major lazyness on my part to lash in two highly rated hurdlers going novice chasing. However I do need a novice chaser badly. I'm going to revisit this. I will remove one of them anyway and put in Cooldine, and then reexamine the novice chaser option.

Its no coinkeydink that those three you highlight are choice 8, 9 and 10 in my list! I think you need a few gambles.

Peddlers cross, Captain Cee Bee and Cue card made the shortlist also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Novice chasers generally dont score well.
I certainly wouldnt bother with two of them anyway.

Albertas Run is at his best on good ground so i cant see him winning any races this side of March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I'd leave Albertas until the bonus swap thing after Christmas also. Agree with the Celestial/Punjabi thing aswell. Theres definitely better novice chase prospects. Tell Massini, Finians Rainbow and Alfie Sherrin for a start.

I reckon 7 or 8 chasers and 2 or 3 hurdlers is about wht you want.

EDIT - well, 3 o 4 four hurdlers. Forgot BB is a given

Does anyone want to take part in a boards mini-league? I'd say there should be at least 10 interested for it to be worth doing. Can see if anyone in the Gmabling forum is interested too. What say you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

    This is my first draft:

    Cue Card
    Solwhit (FR)
    Big Buck's (FR)
    Binocular (FR)
    Golden Silver (FR)
    Kempes (IRE)
    Kauto Star (FR)
    Pandorama (IRE)
    Finian's Rainbow (IRE)
    Tell Massini (IRE)

Don't know which if either of the novice chasers to take out. Finians runs at Cheltenham this weekend and comes with glowing reports from Geraghty. Tell Massini was good on his debut....Also Alfie Sherrin jumps fences tomorrow so could also be a contender for the novice position.

Kempes might go for a 2 miler in England. Almost certainly...

Two good novice races today, could be informative.

2.50 Huntingdon, 1.10 Bangor. Tarablaze, Alfie Sherrin, Medermit amongst others having a look.

Also, does anyone have any info on the wellbeing of Hurricane Fly and Mikael D'hageneut?

When are thy ready to roll, and what are early season targets?

You having a bet on Poquelin tomorrow? tough task for him but he loves the track. Not with out a chance...

Also Tricky trickster tomorrow and Forpady on Sunday. Good to have early runners (and hopefully winners) on the board!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭jimini0

i really like poquelin its a horse for in my opinion loves every ground and as for padydeplasterer it will be in the mix it always is. tricky trickster has won me alot in the past so i could not leave it out

nulty i see you went for PANDORAMA why???????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

He's a horse I really like and he arguably has the best staying novice form of last year. However good Weapons Amnesty was at the festival, Pandorama had his measure in Ireland. Whats not to like, he'll be going for the Hennessy and then onto the Gold Cup if all goes well. He'll probably need to win the Hennessy to think about the GC but I reckon he's got a very goo chance. Its worrying to hear he was bleeding from the nose when he was withdrawn at Down Royal but positive vibes coming from Noel Meade say theres nothing to worry about.

The nosebleed put me off including Pandorama, yet I picked Captain Cee Bee in one of my lists. I can't remember the logic for it.

My first team is(some risky picks but potentially excellent horses):

    Big Bucks
    Big Zeb
    Captain Cee Bee
    Cue Card
    Diamond Harry
    Get Me Out Of Here
    Hurricane Fly
    Khyber Kim
    Long Run
    The Nightingale

My second team(more solid picks) is:

    Big Buck's
    Big Zeb
    Binocular
    Denman
    Imperial Commander
    Kauto Star
    Menorah
    Michel Le Bon
    Planet Of Sound
    Solwhit

I doubt the Paddy Power made much odds, can't see many having picked Dancing Tornado.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Finians Rainbow was meant to run this weekend. Must not have been ready. Really looking forward to seeing if he lives up to the hype. I've bought into it by selectiong him for the TTF...better not disappoint. BG has said he "devours fences". Heres hoping
