Social Welfare

    Hi there,
I'm stuck in a bit of a position here and cant seem to find correct information on-line. All the websites contradict each other :(
So if anyone here knows a bit about social welfare and thinks they can help, I'd really apriciate it.
    So, heres my problem.
I'm 19 years old and completed my leaving cert last June and am now doing a year long, full time Post leaving cert course.
I cannot seem to find a job at all, even part-time.
I need to move out of my house as I fear my mother (I have a safety order against her) but I cant afford rent and as far as i know, cant get rent allowance or the dole because im in full time education.
I also need money to eat, get to college etc... But cannot get a grant because of my family background.
We used to be quite wealthy but last year, my dads company went bust and we have now been left with nothing. Cars reposessed. and they will be taking the house in 2 years.
I cant get a grant because of my address (i live in a nice area) even though i can prove we cant afford it. And also because neither of my parents (who are both unemployed) will appy for job seekers/the dole because they want to try get the company back (which wont happen for years).
When considering you for a grant, they look at income history from 2 years ago (which is when we had a little bit of money) and dont look at recent info (we have nothing now).
My parents dont give me money and I just have nothing but it seems i cannot get any social welfare! Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks

You might get a better answer in this forum: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=861

    :)

PS: I sympathise with your position. You might want to have a chat with a local councillor or TD to see if they can help you.

As above, contact citizens information to find out your local welfare officers' meeting times

If you drop out of college as you are doing a PLC course, which you can do again easily next year, you will be able to get the Dole, after a few weeks. You might just have to go down that road, just to get some form of financial control and to get rent allowance to move out! But in six weeks time with the coming budget, welfare is going to be cut! So its a risk either way!

You're not entitled to any dole I'm afraid
