Think I'll back Bertie's Dream today, sneaky fiver on Dark Raven in the 3 mile maiden

I see your point. My take on it is that they're simply going for a day out. Using the race as a schooling session.

Berties Dream is expected to win today.
Firstly Bertie was to run at Cheltenham but was withdrawn after his poor run at Navan where he was backed. He bled after the race and I heard nothing for today.Secondly Dog Barrel Hill could have run in his own grade ,finish down the field and be dropped ,could run similar race today and be put up in the ratings??

Sure it depends how far he's beaten... Better for his rating to get absolutely stuffed in better race than be beaten say 8 lengths in a worse race.
I guess they're trying to sneak under the radar with him.

The 17.45 Thurles is a very strange race in that a horse I like Dog Barrel Hill has to give Berties Dream 5lb[allowance not included] yet is rated 36lb inferior.

It is pointless comparing marks when Dog Barrel Hill has not run in open company over hurdles before.

A question was posted by Urban on this issue. In my opinion it is far better to get beaten 8l in your grade than to finish down the field in a far better race. The handicapper will look at every horses finishing position in every race.Lets take the much better race and if an average horse is beaten 30l by a top rated horse and finishes 8/8 he will then look to the next horse in 7th and rate accordingly if he deems the horse finishing last ran to his mark or above. That is why some horses may get a 1lb rise for finishing down the field. He may well take into account the winning time and the standard of the race.On the other hand if that average horse runs 8l of the winner in his own grade again he will look at the proximity of the other rated horses.Listening to Noel O Brien he usually says "I handicap horses according to certain conditions" he never says what these conditions are but its all about his perception of a race.So Im sure none of us trying to judge a handicap mark for a horse is totally right or wrong[its our perception of what we see].If this looks like crap it probable is.

It is not pointless comparing marks for this race.the bookies see the highest rated as 6/4 and Dog Barrel Hill 33/1.If DBH were to win he would go up at least 16lb if DBH were to win in his grade he would go up nothing like that[he would win in his grade].As I print 33/1 -16/1[Paddy Power].If this was a young unexposed horse you would be correct but he is eight and the horse he beat could not win off 92[Castlerock rose]runs today 18.45.

Anyone see 5.30 Sedgefield yesterday Kielan Woods on No No Charlie seemingly very confident , took a look behind and in the driving wind/rain/sleet/snow promptly fell off . Well worth a look on ATR or such

Was wondering where that horse finished. Irishracing doesn't even mention it in the race report http://www.irishracing.com/results/v5result051201204031730.htm

But when you type in its name you get the race report with him in it

What a day .Went for a pint to the racing pub was told a horse in the 17.10 Folkestone will win but is nervous at the start.Backed him and then a horse gets loose finishes 2nd[watch race].Then word from Clonmel is that O Grady said that Headford Flyer will jump them silly, last two fences omitted because of the sun ,finished 2nd.Bad day.Have a look at the Grand National site.

Nathan Cook looks to be hurt after a fall at Ffos Las. Went down and got a really bad kicking by the looks of it. He hadn't moved within about 20 seconds hope he's alright.

Anyone see Soumillon on Dabirsim there? Sickened him, he sat there, literally looked around about 5 times cruising. All of a sudden sees Dragon Pules coming at him, done on the line.

Nathan has been airlifted to hospital, but as a precaution. Has been talking and moving, was knocked out for two minutes, going for an MRI scan but think it looks good.

Was watching it with my dad and he said just coming to the top of the bend that horse in front is going quite well don't ya think, I turned to him and said ah sure what's she got left in the tank as they crossed the line he looked at me and said i think she's got plenty left in the tank :D Hate when the oulad's right!

Impressive winner all the same reminded me of Ernest Hemingway's win last week the way they quickened away from the field under very much hands and heels riding. Two very promising horses and certainly one for the tracker

It was quite fascinating to see a skewbald run at Hexham today. I wouldn't be in favour of seeing this trend emerge but it is an interesting concept.

Why would you not be in favour?

I would like to see the thoroughbred be kept as pure as possible.

Are they vegetable? Are they some other form of uncategorised food?

I'm sure you've all been at the carvery and been asked if you want vegetables:
    "Yes I'll have the lot"

    "Potatoes?"

"*huh?* I said yes, the lot...."

They come in too many forms aswell, mashed, boiled, roast, shallow fry, deep fried, chips.

    Varieties? Yup!

Rooster, Kerrs Pink, Records, Golden Wonder, New potatoes, sweet potatoes, potatoes with the dirt still on them...

Theres a potato head, potato gun, couch potato, you can even make a battery out of a potato.

Is it just Oirish paopel what ate der taters an' not what for cal 'em veggietables?

(In the style of Peter Kay)

    Whats that all abuuut?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭milehip1

exactly what's all that abuuut indeed?
