    hey there,

I was kicked out of home 2 months ago for reasons I would rather not say and started to rent a house with 3 other people. When I moved out I thought it would be easy to pay the rent and bills and still eat on 196 euros a week but now 2 months later I am finding my self having trouble with it all.

My question is because I am already moved out would I be able to apply for rent allowance? I could probably survive on beans and toast and pasta for the next 4 months (so long as I haven't found a job that is! fingers crossed that I do find one!) and then apply for rent allowance but they state that I have to be able to show I could afford to live out when I first moved out. That will be hard to explain because I will probably have the same income in 4 months time (196 euro) I did have cash when I moved out but that's dried up now and because it was cash and not in a bank or anything I can't really prove I had that to supplement me when I moved out.

Any advice on what I Should do? I cannot move back home, that's out of the question now.

You will need to be renting for 6 months before you can get rent allowance (although no harm applying now). You also shouldn't rely on the €196 OR rent allowance after the Budget. There are big changes afoot. I'd recommend you apply for a medical card immediately.

€196 isn't a lot of money, but the dole was designed to help people make ends meet. Your beans on toast comment is pretty childish because even if you spend €100 a week on rent and bills, €20 pw on either a few drinks at the weekend or a meal out, you can buy an awful lot of beans and toast with the money you have left over.

Rent a room in a shared house for €50 pw with at least 2 other people to keep bills down. Make sure your housemates don't have expensive sky/internet packages, they recycle, and don't share with all girls because they'll put the heating bill through the roof. You could also get digs .. living with a family for a set amount a week. Find the right house and bills and heating can be included.

I know the most boring part of not having a job is having all this time and no money. But when you have few obligations there's no reason you can't get by on the dole until you actually find a job.
