havent opened it yet-where did u find the inks for the hp?

Epson has single inks, much cheaper to run than the hp 2480.
Make sure you buy the inks with the cheetah on the front, as apposed to the ones with the monkey on.... The cheetah is a higher capacity and only 2 or 3 euro more

Get your ink cartridges from either amazon.co.uk, who now have free delivery to Ireland when you spend £25 or more, or 7dayshop.com. Put the compatible inks in BEFORE you put the originals in. That way you will fool the software to accept compatible ink.

same, but now and again I get an error saying that the ink is not recognized half way through the cartridge - and have to replace it.

    still well worth it tho.

did you use the original cartridges at any time or only ever use compatibles as Kristopherus in post #9 ?

Just I have bought a stylus sx515W and have already installed and used the supplied cartridges and wondering if it's worth the gamble of using compatibles next??

Well I learned my lesson the hard way. Got a Lexmark X5495 2 yrs ago and used the orioginal ink in it. I scoured the internet for compatible ink and eventually got some from rubberfrog.com. They wouldnt work on the Lexie. So I have been getting the originals as cheaply as I can from Amazon. The No 28 & 29 that it uses checked at €49.99 in Tesco a few days ago. I can get them as cheaply as €15 on Amazon:)
The Epson cartridges are usually cheaper than Lexmark in any case. There were some great deals for compatible cartridge multipacks on Amazon & also on 7dayshop.com. I got the tip from a couple of sources that if you insert the compatible cartridges in the initial use, then the software will adopt the compatible cartridge as its own, if you get my drift. Sometimes you will get a pop-up message re the cartridge. Follow you own intuition there.
I have an Epson X215 that I hope to rig up in the next week for her highness, & will use the compatible inks from the first off. I will post results here.

I have an epson sx115... its a great wee machine. Never had a spot of trouble from it and the ink is relatively cheap for it too.

Apparently the sx515w takes the rhino cartridges as well (even higher capacity)
not sure about the sx515 - but might be worth looking into

At last I got around to rigging up the SX 215. You can initialize this one, and I presume all the SX series, without having connected to a computer. Started it up and popped in the compatible cartridges. It clunked & clicked for a few seconds and then announced "No ink". I turned it off fro 30 secs. & repeated the process. Same result. I kept at this routine for about 5 repeats. Eventually Eureka! It worked. To test it I copied a colour page from 1 of the guides that came with it. It copied perfectly.

The instructions that came with the compatible multipack are as follows: "Do not touch the chip.Do not squeeze the cartridge.Remove the Blue Plastic Clip, if on the cartridge.Remove the yellow lable. Install the cartridge immediately. If the printer cannot recognise the cartridge, remove and re-install until it shows OK.After installation, if the computer shows 'this is not an Epson pruduct', please click 'yes' to continue. To ensure the best printing result, run nozzle check after installation. If the nozzle check result is not satisfactory, please run nozzle cleaning and leave the printer unused for 15 minutes"

Hope this helps any of you boardies who may have purchased any of the Epson SX series of inkjet printers. By the way Amazon have a 15-pack (3 full sets + 3extra blacks) for £12.99. Super value. And all the better if you can get free delivery. The ink4europe.com price for a 12-pack of compatible ink is a whopping €66.96:eek:
