Switching from UPC to Sky

    Hi,

I want to switch to Sky from UPC. For €30, I can get a Sky + box and another Sky multi-room box for €10 a month.

This seems like a great deal.

Now, my question - has anyone else switched, is there any nonsense from UPC like you have to give us 3 months notice or has anyone encountered situations where you're still betting billed by UPC?

You have to give the a months notice. I think you should compare the packages. IMHO UPC are better. I have moved from Sky to UPC. I have the Digital Max package, which includes Setanta Ireland and ESPN. In addition I have the Sky Sports package,( I'm a sports buff) plus 2 dvrs,(to keep the OH happy) which is the same as 2 sly+ boxes. I'm paying €69 for all that. Now the equivalent package from Sky would be over €100. No contest in these times.

I recently switched from Sky to UPC to save money and I have to say it's the worst decision I ever made. Apart from the fact that they told me on the phone that I could get TV, the phone and internet for about €50 per month less than I was paying, only to discover that when I submitted my order only the TV was available in my area, the actual TV planner and recording is rubbish compared to Sky.

It looks like it was designed by a 10 year old back in 1980. I've had endless problems in the 2 weeks that I've had it, including all programmes on the planner being deleted while we were away overnight, we had the X Factor due to record tonight, but when we went into "My Recordings" it wasn't there, magically an hour later it appeared. Unable to series link numerous programmes including Match of the Day. I could go on and on......

My advice to anyone planning to switch, is don't.

Mine works fine, except for a few small glitches & I'm on MMDS. So I suppose its a case of different strokes for different folks.

    Agree totally.

You get setanta and ESPN free with UPCunlike sky where you have to pay extra and with sky you need a phone line to get the extra box. UPC will do call out repairs for free which can include getting a replacement DVR, modem etc for free. I cant get UPC in the new apartment I moved into and had to get sky. I find it a rubish service. The signal always goes on certain channels and the amount of endless rubbish stations on it gets annoying for me.
