Hi guys been meaning to up the HD on my MacBook PRo in ages but have just received MemoryC.coms newsletter and am wondering if this HD would be suitable. My MBP is 2.16ghz Core 2 Duo with 3gb or RAM and stock 120gb HD in it. Any advice greatly appreciated

Was just talking about this drive last night. I've the standard Seagate Momentus 500GB 7,200 RPM but I'd love the hybrid one.

Can't see any issues with putting it in. It's the correct dimensions (9.5mm height) which is the most important spec to put in the MBP, after that there shouldn't be any problem

that looks interesting! just upgraded my mbp 2007 to a 500GB 7200rpm and makes a huge difference although slightly more vibrations/noise with laptop now. go for it! :D

It will work if that's what you're worried about. I was looking for one of those drives earlier this year when I decided to upgrade my MacBook Pro 2,1 but I couldn't get my hands on one at the time so I installed a regular 500GB drive instead.

I know this may not be what you want to hear but I had that same model MBP until I sold it earlier this year (to get the new MBP) and I replaced the standard HDD with one of these SSDs and it was like a new machine (mind you I paid nearly €400 for it!). Unbelievable speed and responsiveness. Seriously consider an SSD and a backup solution if you need more space than that. I vowed never to go back to regular HDDs after I put the vertex in the MBP. I transfered it to my new MBP and it's ever faster. With an SSD you won't know yourself.

I've just two weeks ago put a Momentus XT 500 in a Mac Mini. Photoshop now opens in 5 seconds rather than 35, however, the damn thing rarely spins down. It spins down for literally about 2 seconds, then back again for another hour or so. I haven't recorded the time it takes between breaths, but it is running constantly. It's not very loud, though, as I have it sitting on a cloth to absorb the vibrations which were more noticeable when directly on the desktop.

Like you, I've been considering whether to put one in my Macbook Pro which is the same age as your own. The thing that concerns me is that because it effectively never spins down, that will impact on battery power. I may just have to bring the power lead for it more often, so as not to get caught short. For the improvement in speed it offers, it may be worth the hassle of carrying it.

For what it's worth, I bought mine, after a long delay in stock renewal, at Elara.ie, for €125. They are now down to €115 MomentusXT

I hope this of some help to you in making your decision.
