It's a very interesting product, kind of where I'd expected cable to go.

Looks like a serioulsy cool gadget, but as they can't even get a basic feature like series link to work properly I'd be very slow to get one of these before I knew if it was any good or not.

    my series link works fine.

ya it does look nice only thing is two years until we can get it :(
how many people will already have gotten google/apple tv by then

I was wondering the same thing. They do seem to leave us behind the rest of our European counterparts, however they do have to rectify their predecessors infrastructure & reputation. Already they have released a dedicated 3D channel in Slovakia/

And yes, I think Google TV or Apple TV will already be well established by the time UPC bring their version to our shores.

They are only in their infancy with HD (which is a near monopoly with Sky here & in the UK) & have yet to release VOD & remote record capabilities amongst others.

At least with UPC, unlike its predecessors, it seems to be a technological leader in many countries and their European networks are pretty much standardised. So, whatever launches in a larger continental market, can be rolled out in Ireland with minimal technical innovation from the local UPC subsidiary.

NTL Ireland was never particularly good at innovation, and Chorus ... where do you even start?! They were diabolical and seemed to be trying to re-invent the wheel and doing it on the cheap e.g. using MMDS DVB-T over cable in some areas etc etc.

Fingers crossed, that UPC will keep up the momentum and continue to push forward with new products in Ireland.
