You need a Lovefilm subscription to access it on PS3 and you can't subscribe to LoveFilm in Ireland so that's why we can't get it on PS3.

It's probably not worth their while setting up a licensing deal for Ireland as we're so small. Lovefilm do ship to Sweden and a few other countries apparently, just not ireland.

I think that Lovefilm might have approached Sony for this.

Will we be getting this ever ? I know lovefilm is in the mix in the other thread, link below.

Dont know if its similar to this thread :
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056060869

PlayStation 3 just leapfrogged Xbox 360 and snagged the best Netflix experience on a videogame console yet.

The new Netflix application for PS3, rolling out for download Monday, will enable Netflix subscribers with PS3s to watch movies and TV without a disc. Some titles will even stream in 1080i HD and 5.1 digital surround sound.

    http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/1325/

Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” streaming-video feature has been available for PS3 since late last year, but it required a Blu-ray disc in order to access the service. Now, by running Watch Instantly as a native PS3 app on the console, users can ditch the disc altogether. Netflix also has a new user interface, optimized for the PS3 controller’s analog joysticks.

In the new UI, search especially seems smartly designed for the PS3 controller, using an alphabetical grid and intelligent auto-complete to minimize the pain of text entry, as seen in this still:

    PS3-Netflix-Text-Entry.png

Still from Sony PS3 promotional video.

I even like the way the controller buttons control common text-entry commands in context — like Space, Delete and Enter. There are keyboards available for PS3, but being able to use the controller well is a real asset.

Netflix has not only continued to bring its streaming service to seemingly every device with a screen, but to make that service better. Still, among consoles, the announced PS3 app stands out: Xbox users don’t have 1080i or surround sound, and Wii users have only now added search to their service, which still requires an “Instant Streaming” disc.

Adding media services has become part of the continued rivalry between Xbox and PS3, along with new motion-capture interaction devices like PlayStation’s Move controller and Xbox’s Kinect.

Besides videogame consoles, Netflix can now stream to personal computers on Windows and Mac; TiVo, HD, Roku, Logitech and Apple TV boxes; Windows Phone 7 and all iOS devices; and a wide array of net-connected TVs and Blu-Ray players, including those using Google TV.

Roku’s players, which began as Netflix-only boxes, will soon be available in retail stores through a partnership with Netgear.

Unless you happen to live in the US so what. Netflix is not available to anyone outside the US on the PS3 or 360. I don't see any comparable EU company stepping up to the plate for the forseeable future.

What sort of broadband speeds would you need for something like this?

I presume the lovefilm option we will have here would need something hefty on speeds as well?

Mods can you merge this with the other thread?

    From the Lovefilm FAQ;
The ‘bit-rate’ we use to send you the film
We currently send our video at around 800kbit/sec. This was picked to be compatible with the majority of internet connection speeds in the UK. This figure is the amount of data transferred per second while watching the video. The lower it is the more we have to pack the video into smaller files and the more issues may arise. We will revise this over time as improvements are made in internet speeds but it does mean a quality comparable to a normal transmission of a television. Also some features – in particular Water, Fast Action and large blocks of colour - can have artefacts due to the limitations of encoding to this bit-rate
Pretty sure they don't offer HD options, but perhaps that will be added to the PS3 app. I'm fine with SD as long as it is decent quality and has the range of films currently on Lovefilm (4,021 and counting on my package...)

Vidzone doesn't have tv shows does it?

I find it hilarious that the ISPs are selling us out to copyright nazis when there is NO legitimate digital alternative.

Rte player is great if you like sub SD, iTunes is great if you have a US account, spotify, netflix, abcplayer, pandora, etc are great if you are in any English speaking country apart from Ireland.

I'm sick of messy workarounds and physical media. If you want online digital content in this country there is no choice but to pirate.

I don't pirate. Ive been trying stupid vpns
Us accounts, waiting for shows I like to appear on DVD. Why should we have to be at the mercy of prehistoric tv stations?

It's a total joke and I'm about ready to give up being a tv consumer. Thank God for videogames is all I can say.

Well said ! i tried the VPN thing too as we have a UK office. Workarounds arent good enough !

And no Vidzone doesnt have TV shows but it does stream music videos
