    hey all,
here is one disaster that i dnt no wat to do about. i crashed my car on the motar way on the 1st of october thankfully i didnt hit n e one my wheel blew and the car crashed in these orange and white bollard tings just outside the leixlip exit. i rang d gaurds as i was on a motarway and they came out and got a tow for me. the gaurd told me its was 135 for the tow and 10 per nite the car was at the yard. he told me this in front of the tow man and he never said a word. now a friend was meant to collect the car for me and never did so its still der now. i rang them to get my bill amount off them and i was goin to go pay it today and scrap the car. but the tow yard are charging me 250 for the tow and nearly 40 per nite it was der so my bill is now nearly 800. shock of my life!!!!

they wont let me pay it with my credit card over the fone and ive no way out to the tow yard. they said the gaurds should never have quoted me a price even tho these tow ppl tow cars for the gaurds. ive rang the gaurd in question and even he says i shouldnt be paying that much its crazy bit its nothing to do with the gaurds as my car wasnt being impounded!!
i now cannot afford to pay this bill the tow company wont make n e deals with as in n e sort of way i can pay part of the bill now and get its capped so its not goin up by 40 quid a day. ive no idea wat so ever wat to do.

if i just leave my car der will they come after me for money or will they just eventually sell the car and pay for it that way.

ive not problem wat so ever paying my bills BUT firstly im sure their ripping me of the gaurd didnt jusyt pull the figures out of his ass and i got a firend to ring them for a quote for "her car" to be towed from the exact same place my car was and they said it was 84 so how is mine 250!!!

any help would b really appreciated

Would this recovery company be starting with a G and ending in a N?

You should have asked the recovery man the price, but it's too late for that. Since you where going to scrap the car I'd just leave it where it is. Debt collectors have no power in this country, so all they can do is keep your car.

id recommend phoning the guards, if they phoned the recovery people for you there is a chance that they have a set price. Phone the guards and see. Otherwise you can just tell them youll pay what you were quoted by the guard. Given the chance theyll take that rather than scrap the car. If you do scrap the car make sure you get a certificate of destruction as otherwise it is still your responsibility, the towing company cant isssue them unless they are a registered authorised treatment facility, and they need your reg cert to issue one anyway. If they decide to refer you to a credit agency your credit rating with suffer and youll find loans mortgages etc hard to get for the next 6 years. I think talking to the guards is prob your best option.

Enough with the misinformation already. The recovery company CAN'T refer anything to the Irish Credit Bureau unless the OP has themselves signed a contract for services, and the recovery company would need to be signed up with the ICB in the first place, which they're not. The recovery company aren't a financial services agency, lender or otherwise. They're unregulated in this regard. They're just a company looking to overcharge the OP for a service they've provided, effectively without the OP's explicit consent to those charges. So, no more scaremongering please.

The Garda at the time engaged their services, and any pricing applied should be in line with the contracted agreement in place with the Gardaí, no more than that. The OP didn't call them out. The OP didn't enter any agreement for provision of services. The OP can not now be expected to pay any more in fees than would be payable for the same recovery and storage were it an 'impound' situation - The work was just the same, as were the tasking agency. The nature of the incident is not their concern - They were asked to recover a vehicle by the Gardaí under a tendered contract award where set pricing was determined and that's the end of the discussion in that regard.

The OP should attend the recovery depot with payment at the standard rate applicable for vehicles recovered under the Garda/M50 whatever it is contract. Offer payment. If refused, ask the persons name and the appropriate contact for your solicitor to follow up with, and go visit a solicitor to handle the matter for you.

Charges will continue accruing, so get the finger out and do something about it.

Are Kelly's covering the N4 now?

apologies, didnt mean to be scaremongering, genuinely thought that they could, i stand corrected. The bit about the scrapping i know to be fact, so make sure if you do the thing right if you scrap it. i know it because i run a recycling yard and this is what has to be done.

i rang the gaurds and they said it was a crazy amount of money and that if it was him he wouldnt pay it but der wasnt n e ting they could do for me because even tho they rang the tow for me it was an private deal between myself and the tow yard now and nothing to do with them. the tow yard arent willing to make n e deals with me wat so ever said they wont budge on the price and said the gaurds had no right to quote me a price which is really annoying me because the tow man never said n e ting wen the gaurd gave me the prices and he was stood right beside us.

i rang this place the day after i crashed the car to pay my bill and get the car colllected by the friend and they told me i couldnt pay over the fone i had to come in with my card and pin which i couldnt do that way i had no way of gettin over to them and when i rang again the other day they told me i could pay over the fone. i tink they are just pure con artists but i dnt see a way out of paying what they are looking for.

the only ting i cant tink of doin at this point to stop my charge goin n higher is to pay the bill and bring to the small claims court.

How far was the car towed? Last year I paid I think it was €130 to have my car towed from Kingswood interchange to Clane. €250 is extortionate.

why have you left it so long with the tow company ?
why did you ask the gardai to sort it out for you ?
check your insurance policy and see if you have breakdown cover.
