I'm thinking about starting up a small sole trader business. Fairly small, just me delivering a product by van to local estates. It's a fairly re-usable product that people could buy quite often. I would just be going door to door getting sales. Obviously before I start I'd want to know if there is an interest, so what would be the best way to get peoples opinions and see if they would buy off me?

    Hi
Theres no better way than to do exactly what you will be doing in your proposed business.

Go knock on doors and ask people would they be interested in buying your product, how often they would buy it, how much they are willing to pay for it, what times suits them best for you to call at home. Do as many houses as you can in different areas and then when you get your results divide the number that said they would buy it by about 5 to get the number that will really buy it.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. I guess the only way to find out is to do what you say.

    Cheers

Give it a try for sure, but I warn you, the day of door-to-door sales being acceptable to customers is pretty much gone. At the local street level, it is really all about referrals and word-of-mouth.
