Not sure if this is the correct forum...

I'm trying to register an imported Transit Connect and I have it commercially insured. I've been told that I need to fill out a Goods Only Declaration(RF111A) form, but this form presumes that an applicant is registered for VAT - which I'm not.

    What do I do here?

Go back in and tell them they are factually incorrect, for a start. You only need a VAT no on turnover over €37.5k p.a.

There is no need to have a VAT no to have a business, nor a commercial vehicle. If they don't believe you, tell them to get on the blower, who'll be happy to confirm it.

You wonder what kind of muppet (continues) to be allowed to work for the Civil Service, tbh........

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Yes it is correct that you can be perfectly legally in business while staying under the VAT threshold.
I would ring the revenue, they will obviously know the tax side of things (they didnt know alot about cars when they were dealing ith them). Perhaps that form can be filled with you clearly stating on it that you are a sole trader etc and not VAT regd or perhaps there is another form altogether

I rang the tax office, who've told me - I can just enter my RSI number instead of a VAT number and that will be accepted.

There's ten or so possible requirements for gaining commercial tax of which VAT is only one (got a flock number?) Most road tax offices now clearly state what these are and it's been discussed several times already.

Maybe a sticky could be set up, these commercial road tax questions are getting tedious
