I stopped downloading when my computer told me that completion of the download would allow the program will have access to my computer and the internet.

(call me paranoid but why would someone give it for free unless there was something in it for them ???)

    cue conspiracy theories !!!

Presumably it needs access to the internet because of the google maps like interface thats stored on the cloud and not on your own pc ?

That's not called being paranoid, that's called being cynical.

Why would someone give it for free? Well it looks pretty damn good on a CV: "Here's an app I wrote, millions of people use it"

No conspiracy. It needs internet access for Google Maps, that's all.

pity it's not available for android phones yet.

I emailed the developer about this a few months back. He was getting several requests a day for an Android version at that time so he said it is a definite priority. He was waiting for Adobe AIR to be available for Android if I recall correctly.

There is an app called Celeste (Lite) for Android which will show you the position of the Sun (and moon, and Mars!) at any point in the day relative to where you are standing. So you can see if it will be obstructed by mountains or buildings or whatever. Useful...

I have it, and it's pretty good, though I dunno if it's worth 7 quid unless you'd use it a lot...

google sky map does the same, unless celeste also allows you pick a time other than the present.

Yes it shows you where the Sun/Moon/Mars is at any time of the day. It's a free download so worth checking out.
