Looks like this is off insurance, not membership

Correct me if I am wrong but is AA membership not usually about €70 for the year? Maybe that was just a special but its not a whole lot.

From the website, it's €146 for the year. Heres the T's&C's of the deal:

    • Customers must purchase either Motor or Home Insurance to avail of €100 off AA Membership

    • AA Ireland reserves the right to cancel this promotion at any time.
    • The €100 off may be redeemed online via the advertised link on the Motor and Home confirmation pages or via the AA Ireland call centre.
    • This Promotion has no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash
    • The €100 discount is non-transferable and non-refundable.
    • The €100 discount can only be redeemed against a new qualifying purchase and cannot be redeemed against a purchase already made.
    • This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
    • The promoter is AA Ireland LTD, Drury Street, Dublin 2

I got the same email, then in the post this morning I got a letter offering me €76 off:confused: I think their marketing department isn't talking to itself.

Haven't bothered with any recovery cover in 15 years of driving so have saved thousands and if I do break down even if it costs €200/€300 for a recovery wagon I've still saved.

check your car insurance, most car insurance already include this for FREE.

Also most new cars include two years breaddown assist for FREE.

In both of the above cases you usually end up with the AA assisting you as the manu/ins cos use them

I have AA insurance and they don't provide free recovery, hence the email and letter offering the discount on AA recovery. I've no intention of ever buying a new car.

BTW nothing is FREE, you are paying for it as part of your policy.

I cannot find a cheaper policy without break down included. Therefore for all intensive purposes it is free.

So when you rang up they told you it would only be €46 for roadside assistance? (full price is €146) I had a look on the website and it said you only get this discount if you buy car insurance?

IIRC if you were an AA member and you lapse you can join again at anytime.
Even when stuck at the side of the road. So you can save a bit by not joining until you need them. Yes you could just call a tow truck, but for the difference you might as well get a years AA.

Not anymore. Car wouldn't start a few years ago and called them after calling my insurer, The AA. You need to be a member for 24 hours before they'll come out.
