Key coding

I've two keys for a VW Golf (second hand) - one works fine, the other opens the doors okay but won't start the engine. I'm guessing it hasn't been coded properly (if at all). I'm guessing I'd need to go to a VW garage to get it sorted - is this going to be a 10 minute job costing a few euros or is it going to be a pain ... Anyone any advice?

the immobiliser end doesnt work on the 2nd one , its a tiny chip built into the key , has to be coded to the ecu by a VW dealer afaik , or the chip in your key may be dead and a new key is needed
