Mobile Broadband in Castlebar

    Hi Guys,

Quick one for ye, someone might be able to help me out.

Moving to Castlebar in the next few weeks and trying to sort out broadband. On a very tight budget, so looking to go as easy as possible on the wallet. I've been looking at mobile broadband dongles as an option, but had one before (albeit over 2 years ago) in Cork city, and it was very slow.

Does anyone here use any of these (3, O2 etc.) in Castlebar, and if so, how are you finding the speed?

Will be used mainly for email and internet usage (no downloading required), but voice calls will be needed once or twice a week.

    Thanks in advance!

I use O2 and it's grand. It wasn't great downstairs in my old house but I moved closer to town and it's perfect up and downstairs!

We'll most likely be moving in close to the train station so trying to guage if it would be ok for there. Do you mind if I ask what package you use with O2, and do you ever run over the stated limit?

Work close to the train station and on use my 3 broadband dongle at work occasionally and find the speeds fine. They have 10gb package for 19.99 and I use the 30gb package for 34.99.

Thanks HP41, that's a big help. Might be a long shot, but ever had to make VOIP calls on connection? And if so, is it possible?

I've called O2 and they said it should be possible, but they can't commit to it, as it may not be possible from within certain buildings etc.

Have never used it for VOIP, when you move if you want to meet up and try VOIP over the dongle I would be willing before you do anything to commit yourself. Would also suggest you deal with the istore in Westport rather than direct with three, have found them excellent.

Thanks again, that's very good of you :) Have been on to both O2 and 3 this morning and they run a "try before you buy" system, so might just drop up and try both out. Again, really appreciate the info!

    I use the 30gb package for 34.99.

Are you being charged 34.99? It should only be 26 euro odd? I'd query that with them.

No thanks needed, and dealing with a shop is better with 3, their customer service in India is a headwreck but when ya go through the shop they deal with Dublin. Best of luck with it.

Because I was already with them on the 19.99 package I wasn't entitled to it, it was a new customer promotion. They charged me the full whack for the first when I changed but have now put me on the promotional price.
