I've a budget of 2,000, and ideally will spend less. Looking for something that is going to be pretty reliable and also fairly economical to run (not just mpg but also cost of replacement parts). No larger than 1.8 litre for tax and insurance cost reasons. I don't mind the year, I don't mind colour (within reason) I don't mind the mileage as long as it's been taken care of and any necessary work has been done (I'll get it checked before hand anyway). I don't do enough mileage for a diesel to make sense. I would hope to get something that, all thing being equal, will last another 100k (realistically I'd be happy if I got 5 good years - so an extra 50k). It doesn't have to be the fastest or flashiest or prettiest, but a bit of luxury inside and something that is enjoyable to drive would be nice too of course.

I was thinking pre 2000 Accord or 2000-2002 S40 (so leather and lots of buttons appeal to me, but I suppose those things aren't essential). Any arguments for or against them, and other suggestions? Cheers.

1.8 Accords can like their petrol but are a fine bus.

I used to love mine when I had it.

I would highly recommend one as a comfy car, 1.8L is good to go as well
