Judo in Ireland

I was wondering, what is the deal with Judo in Ireland. I was looking online and apparently there is some big split between 2 organisations, IJA and Judo Ireland. I was wondering what is the difference between the two and how do they interact.

I'm only asking cause there is a Judo Ireland club close to me and I was looking to join. I sat in and watched and it looked fun enough to watch for me to join.

    regards.

I'm guessing you were in Alan Martin's club in Ashbourne?

Alan is a nice guy with a great knowledge of Judo, and yes he's Judo Ireland.

As regards the split, I've no opinions on it as politics isn't my thing at all.

Yeah, it was in Ashbourne. But the guy's name is Eamon. There were a good few people at it actually. I'll probably join it cause it's right on my doorstep but I was wondering what's the deal with other clubs. Can I train in others aswell, or will the kick me out the door cause I'm not apart of their organisation.

Eamon is a good guy alright, and so are all the rest of the coachs there. its a good club, id suggest you join up and check it out for a while.

I asked the exact same simple innocent question in here a few months back (at least) and i got flamed from every angle... from a mod in here too. none of which knew what they were talking about.

The only difference you will notice is when you are going for competitions or gradings, you will be going for a Judo Ireland, or an IJA event. I cant remember who i was talking to but seemingly there is another split again somewhere, so there are 3 judo organisations in ireland now... mad i think :)

3-Way split... that's very complicated for a minority sport in a small country. I'll be sure to pop in so and join up. I might email the one in swords too and ask them since I live between Ashbourne and Swords.

I'm the only Judo moderator here, I sincerely hope I didn't flame you.

I don't involve myself in the whole IJA/JI spilt.

I'm IJA myself but I hold absolutely no ill will towards anyone wishing to train with J.I.

And this is the first I'm hearing of a third organsation!.

    ***late edit.

Samhail, I just found that post HERE, is that a can of worms you want to open up on yourself again?.
