Pat The Hat's Attack on EI last night

I spent most of the hour before bed last night roaring obscenities at the tele whilst watching annoying Pat trying to shoot down Enterprise Ireland on Frontline last night.

It isn't something I normally watch but it was tagged as 'the real entrepreneurs of Ireland getting their businesses up and running successfully in the hope that they might be able to provide jobs for some of those unemployed'.

And some of them were doing very well - companies of a few years old employing 80 people and a private hospital in Cork about to open on Friday with 500 new jobs - WooHoo!!

What really p1ssed me off, however, was the petty, small minded way in which they all attacked Enterprise Ireland. The big issue was that few of them were actually aware of what EI's remit is - they are there to help service and manufacturing oriented companies to thrive in foreign markets.

A class quote of the night (and this is just one of many) came from a lady who made baby products. She used to make them in Brazil "and when we wanted to move production to Ireland [thus creating some new jobs] EI wouldnt even help us to find a factory"! AGGGGHHHHHHHHH. It's this lack of education and harping on that gets right on my wick!! Why cant people just get on with it and stop bleedin' giving out??

I'm not in any way aligned to EI and we have received various amounts of funding from them. YES, there is red tape and YES, there is bureaucracy but, once you cut through that, there are funds available IF you do what it is they support.

I just wish people would educate themselves before they went ranting on the tele!

There, rant over (on the internet!) :-)

    SM

Given that the Irish media are feeding the people a steady diet of doom and misery, it's not surprising. And Pat revels in it. There was one point where someone gave a glowing recommendation of EI and there was a chink of light where the conversation in the studio could have gone in a progressive, positive direction and I just waited for Pat to bury it - and watched as he did just that.

I watched the programme online and found it flat and miserable - constant bashing of EI with the welcome exception of a few who defended them with their good experiences. I was looking forward to Ray Nolan inspiring people a bit and maybe coming on with some great ideas but all he did was swing in his chair looking smug and offering absolutely nothing.

Amazing - talk about false advertising in terms of pitching the programme. I'm just really thankful it's not representative of us as a people - 4th most entrepreneurial nation wasn't it? So that's something to be encouraged about!
