Hi all. Question for all you petrol heads.
Currently driving a 2001 daywoo lanos 1.4 saloon. Had a service about 3 months ago. Thing is, just lately it has been using a (Lot) more petrol than usual. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance.;)

Getting colder? It makes a difference.

Thanks shed. But this is a really noticeable difference.

Are you going to quantify this noticeable difference for us ? Ideally in terms of mpg ;)

Hi Rover. Would this car use a tenner a day going from finglas to shankhill via m50 and back with a little bit of running around in between.? Thanks

Finglas to shankhill is roughly 40km each way. Adding in another ~20km for running around a bit, it's roughly 62 miles.

    €10 @129.9 is about 7.7L of petrol.

    That's 36.6MPG

If you only did an extra 10km running around, it's about 32.4MPG

    Couple of questions:
Does it sound different? (High idle due to sticky idle air control valve)

Is it hard to start? (compression issues?)

Did it get bad just after the service? (heavier oil?)

Are your tyres inflated correctly? (They may be low from a slow leak or just that it has gotten colder lately)

Do your wheels spin freely? (Bearing starting to fail or brakes dragging?)

I'm just throwing ideas out there, maybe one will work!!

Heh another example how much easier l/100km is easier then MPG.

    In that case it's just 7.7 l/100km.

One thing i've noticed is that it doesn't seem to accelerate as quick as usual. Seems a bit sluggish really. Thanks shed;)

    Maybe your brakes are stuck.
Lift the car, and check if you can turn the wheels. (make sure it's not on the gear or handbrake).
