Is there cheap car hire in Dublin Airport?!

Me and Mr sudzs are off home to Dublin for a couple of days next weekend and have just been checking out car hire from the airport. I'm boggled!

If it isn't a dodgy fuel policy (as in we pay for a full tank when we pick up the car but don't get refunded for any we don't use) it's a hefty airport surcharge and the whole thing is looking like it's going to be very pricey.

Maybe I'm going through the wrong websites or something so any tips or advice greatly apreciated. :)

the car rental crowds at dublin airport are nuts, they seem to make up their prices as they go along. i tried to arrange car hire from a friend of a friend who works there who said he'd do a 'good deal' but while he was getting details off me, i was on travelsupermarket.com getting quotes there. his quote was more than double for a similar car.

    use travelsupermarket.com
they'll go through all the options on the web, and most sites give you a definitive amount. if you pick carhire3000 (i think) you have the option of getting insurance for a one off payment for the whole trip, which is about the same as what you'll pay per day if you take the option at the airport. their voucher, and argus will have a nice big 'PAID IN FULL' at the bottom so you can smirk at the rep who can't charge you any small extras too.

the fuel thing is usually just a deposit though, they'll take if off you and when you bring it back full it'll be refunded.

I tend to hire cars from Thrifty. Never hired one at the airport but I returned one there once: Their location is actually in one of the long-term car parks, a bit from the terminal. You take a shuttle bus there and in return for this slight inconvenience, their prices are much lower. Maybe this is an option for you?

    Thanks ballsymchugh! :)

I've been through lots of UK websites and some of do have that fuel thing, it's in the small print, seems like a right rip-off. I believe it's common in Spain but I'd never come across it before, any time we hired a car before it was as you say, return the car with a full tank and there's no probs,

    Will try travelsupermarket.com now!

...and thanks undo, I'll try thrifty too! :D
