Yes its a far cry from last years prices. A few weeks ago I bought half tonne bags of rolled barley for €190/t delivered. As im in the west this was a good price so I ordered enough to get through until January!

Prices delivered about a month ago:

    R. Wheat 250
    R. Barley 195
    Maize Meal 250
    Soya Hulls 160
    Distillers 220

different story to last year alright. barley was around 145/t last year here. Prices may come down tough :o

does any body know how much rolled barley you can give to animals without sickining them at the mo weanlings avg 400kgs are getting 2 kg of barley and good grass but when their inside i have good silage + a rolled barley/mollasses and 20% balancer the barley/mollasses is costing me 190/ton in half ton bags collected and 20% balancer will cost 250/ton collected loose so a 80/20 mix will cost me just over 200/ton - so how much of this could i feed if i slowley build them up on it some one said i could feed them 1-1.5% body weight but at 500 kgs this would be 7.5 kgs is this too much ??

Rolled barley is making €190/tonne in bulk or €210/tonne in half-tonne bags around these parts anyway, direct from the grower.

    Hi Ellewood

    What is in the balancer?
If you are going over 50% barley and feeding 7-8 kg are you going ad lib?
I think you might need beet pulp(15-20%) in there not citrus to act as a buffer, also straw for fibre. Citrus pulp has too much acid in it.
Maize meal is also high energy, but only about 10% CP.
If you are finishing bulls only put them on ad lib for 6-8 wks at the end. It will cost too much this winter otherwise.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Price is well up this year, and looks likely to hold for a while at least

    chart?chart_primary_ticker=LIFFEC:UCT&chart_time_period=12_month&canvas_colour=000000&primary_chart_colour=CC0000&use_transparency=0&plot_colour=ffffff&cp_line_colour=1F4F82&margin_left=35&margin_bottom=20&margin_right=20&time_24hr=1&tiny_chart=1&tiny_month_view=1&logo_strength=light&y_axis_left=1&x_axis_plain=1&cp_line=1&cp_line_style=dotline&charting_freq=1_minute&co_dimension^width=629&co_dimension^height=190

The graph is for UK feed wheat but barley has followed it pretty well, time to buy was just before the harvest.....

If your interested futures prices here

thanks blue, i dont exactly know whats in balancer i just enquired last week about soya they hadnt any but said they had this 20% balancer loose. Im just trying to get a ration thats simple ie. as much barley as i can use + protien teagasc lads keep on 3 or 4 way mixes but i can get barley at fairley ok prices so i want to use as much as that as possible. i have no vermin/rain proof shed to store blown in so the half ton bags suit better small bags of made up ration is too dear .

well just going on last years prices but would ye not think that its better value to get a barley citrus gluten mix for say 165/t blown in compared with 145/t for just rolled barley in half ton bags collected? i am assuming that if barley is 200 this year that the 3 way mix is also gone up by as much but same question applies?
