Is it any wonder that Irish drivers have such bad motorway lane discipline.

There is a massive mobile electronic message board stating "Fastlane closed Junction 6 to 7 due to roadworks" on the M4 near lucan

If they used any other terminology 95% of the drivers wouldnt know what they were talking about...

True! May as well just call it the fastlane. Those huge overhead signs should really be reminding people about the correct lane to be in, instead of telling people to belt up, something which everyone should be doing anyway.

People do seem to have difficulty differentiating between 'inside' and 'outside'.

    You'll find that its not:rolleyes:

The reason for allot of people hogging the overtaking lanes of our motorways(Dublin in particular) is because they think its the fast lane(like yourself)

Right lane would not take up much more space than Fast Lane and would be perfectly clear.

I saw it referred to as the "fast lane" in the Irish Times the other day. Our national paper of record, and the RSA overhead signs both use that incorrect terminology. Can you really expect the general motoring public to know it:rolleyes:
