Just noticed this place on the naas road. They can cut you new keys and re code keys etc

Just wondering if anybody has any experience of them or feedback?

They are part of the alpha lock and safe company and seem to be well organised but not much cheaper than a main dealer .

Anyone know how much they charge, roughly? Honda wanted 125+vat for just a new alarm beeper. Ripoff!

Site has no email address on it..

I need a new key for a 2004 Ford Focus. The original key is worn and old so it sticks in the ignition and won't open the boot anymore. Can anyone give me any advice?

at the risk of stating the obvious , visit your local ford dealer !!

Try crothers http://www.crothers.ie/, they quoted me €95 a key for an 06 focus zetec. which compared to other quotes is reasonable.
<edit> That includes programming to cars ecu.

you need to be careful with keys as in most cases they have to be programmed to your ecu before the will start the engine.most dealers will programme foc if you buy the key from them , but will probably charge you if you source it elsewhere !!
give your local dealer a chance first !!!!!!!!!

Herd of many ford owners giving their dealer a chance, to be quoted 4-500 per key, sometimes more even.

By all means get a price, just don't be surprised if you need to sit down upon hearing it.

that may well be true , but at least you have a starting point pricewise and you know exactly whats required so you can make a comparison.
i'd be surprised if it cost that much , merc keys can be supplied and coded fron dealers for about 250.00 !
again i say give the dealer a chance - you might be surprised and until you know what he is going to charge everything else is just speculation and hearsay !!

If the key has a chip in it then a cheaper alternative to getting a new one from a dealer with all the costs involved in programming it is to get a new key cut and the chip cloned in the new key from one of the old keys, there used to be a place opp. the Davenport Hotel near Westland Row who did this for me a few years ago, not sure if they're still there.

i have to ask coylemj , have you compared pricing or are you just assuming it would be cheaper to find someone to supply a key and then find someone else to clone it from another key , assuming there is another key , in which case why is it been replaced?
why do we feel the need to run around in circles and visit as many different places as possible when your dealer can do it all and possibly for near enough the same money ??

btw everybody - i have just spoke to a ford dealer , Finlays in Naas , and they will supply and programme a complete key with remote for 140.00 + vat !!

    I REST MY CASE !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,624 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

You don't have much of a case to rest! I did not have to 'run around in circles', the guys I mentioned took one of my keys, cut a new one and cloned the chip data, it was a one stop shop and they charged me about 40 euros.

my point was the dealer is not that expensive (some people on the thread speculated that it could cost 400-500 euro !) .your info was vague (some guy a few years ago ) god only knows how technology in keys has changed in that time.my way you get a brand new key with a full 2 year warranty and peace of mind.

Depends on the dealer. Ford I would expect to be cheaper than most.

What year is the Jeep?, i dont think any toyota key is that price, ill check and see tho, i could be wrong.

    EDIT

What type of key do you have, Is it a key and then a seperate remote locking fob, or an all in one key (Remote locking built in)

My problem is that the original key is nearly totally worn away which is why irt sticks, does the ford dealer have some sort of retained record of the original key to make a copy and if so can I get that from them and get the key cut at a cheaper place?
    Cheers

the original selling dealer may have the codes on file or may be able to get them for you.the 1st page of the service book should have been stamped by the selling dealer when the PDI (pre delivery inspection) was carried out.

    best of luck !

    Yes, they do.

I had a new key cut according to a 'code' they have on file that can be looked up from the car registration. They'll only do this, though, if you can provide the state-issued ownership document.

For what it's worth, a non-chipped (ie, it will only open doors) key was €8 from http://www.ashleyford.ie/

Like a previous poster at another Ford dealer, they also quoted €140 for a set of three new chipped keys and the necessary ECU-tinkering to pair them.
