Unlikely as ALL Saorview compatible boxes have HDMI for HDTV and SCART for regular TV (Non-HDTV). There may be such a box, but I've not seen it.

You'll have to use an old video recorder as modulator or buy a Modulator in Maplin.

It must be an ancient TV that has no SCART.

What about this http://www.powercity.ie/?brands=WALKER&pages=1&par=10-23 it has a Rf out.

or maybe it's just a loop through for analogue

the triax tr110 has a wideband rf modlator ,you can select the rf from ch 21 to 69,however it will not decode the hd test channel,

Then it's useless for Irish DTT.

I suspect a loop through. My DVD recorder has RF loop. No Modulator. (and no, it doesn't do digital :) )

TVTrade should show better than to be stocking that Triax in the first place - it is not suitable for Irish DTT as its a SD product.

    Back to the question.

RF Modulator - as slegs says you wont find them on the cheaper models (or indeed some of the dearer models!)

Indeed the Technomate combos with dvb-s2 and dvb-t have an RF modulator built in

    1. Technomate TM-6900HD Combo Super OR
    2. Technomate 8000 HD combo

    Both are around 250 sterling

    Or

    DTT Twin
Philips HDT8010 will also work and has 2 DTT tuners and a 160g hard drive

or the Sagem DVR84250T HD - DVB-T Twin Tuner 250Go both about the same price as the technomates.

    (neither of these do satellite).

None have MHEG5 for fancy text and a RTE NLs epg but do have the modulator you are looking for. Might be cheaper forgetting the modulator and just going over to France and grabbing a few "TNT HD" boxes they are as low as €30 over there.

Does the Sigmatech DVBR-520 HD Digital TV Receiver ,which is labeled "TNT HD" ,decode the hd test channel ?

Did anyone think to ask why the modulator is required & maybe suggest an alternative?

Tom Slick (what are you bringing to the party :))

I think he has already ruled out VCRs or external mods.

I have already suggested that cheaper alternative HD STBs from France may be cheaper for DTT alone if bought on the ground.

    @Elsie1b: Yes.

if it's for a 2nd TV etc, more setboxes might make more sense.

Has anyone come across a mpeg 4 box with RF out or is a modulator the only solution?

Only a Strong SRT-8106 is all I'm aware of with an RF Modulator output (not loopthru, that's a seperate output).

The SRT-8105 is the basic non-modulator version of same.

As with all non-certified generic STB's, the usual caveats apply, like no MHEG5, etc.

First you would need to describe the problem.

Dont understand? What problem? There is no problem, im looking for Mpeg 4 DVB-T receivers that have RF output to save in using RF modulators to pipe around a building, I.E a hotel/B&B.

A solution is usually a response to a problem.:)

It's an old thread and I only ask as there have been enquiries elsewhere for such a box simply to extend the life of an old pre-SCART TV.

You're better with proper professional head end modulators for a Guest house or Hotel. Built in modulators use up the next lower channel, add a lot of noise and have harmonics creating interference. Using domestic "built in" modulators leads to a rubbish distribution system if more than about 2 channels are added.
