Data extraction from broken laptop

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-7134M that I need to get data from.

It's completely dead. As in, no power. I'm guessing I can just take the laptop apart, remove the hard drive and get an external hard drive enclosure for it.

Is that the best way? Will it even work? What else do I need to think of?
