That's a good enough result for the year that's in it. I hope I'm doing as good - although I think that most of mine are in calf - there were a few that I had to give ai to more than 3 times and on the last time (Early August) I swore that I'd let them go if they repeated. Luckily I haven't seen any of them repeat.

Have the scanner booked for the end of the month when i expect to have all housed - of course that depends on the weather.

17% empty rate, seriously disapointed with that... The last few years have been closer to 8 or 9% empty, have a new bull and I reckon he was maybe too young but I know for sure he did a few but missed a good few too.

Am wondering now to sell the late calvers(not incalf) as milkers in a month, 1 is still milking 24.5ltrs/day and only calved at the start of June so maybe someone would be glad of her..Its that or keep them to fatten but there's no money in that whatsoever.

the sucklers are as fat as fools - pedigree angus-, the scanning man said they where the best condition cows he had seen in a while... they are only on grass.. fr heifers are actually not in great nick this year and was surprised how many where in calf... dairy cows got minimal meal all summer for tetany.. will see what happens on friday

well scanned cows did 97 ... 16 not in calf , 1 or 2 surprises but knew the most of them... i am happy as i am liquid milk and am not that tight on calving... scanned 56 in april and most of them where in calf... scanning man said that the conception rate to ai this year is a disaster and some guys are in serious trouble with empty cows

Did you think that 16 was a high figure? Last year out of 55 sucklers scanned, all 55 were in calf with us. This year, we have loads that aren't. We have a number of replacement heifers that broke too. It was a disaster year for us, and the fact that we lost our bull 3/4 way through the season and had to rely on AI after that didn't help either. I'm not looking forward to our scanning at all.

well of course ideally i wanted them all to be in calf , but realistically i am happy.. some of those not in calf only calved in june .. bull came out the end of august and i am going to let my br fr bull back in next week for 6 weeks ... then take a break and scan again.. at least i know where i stand , could have been alot worse... also 2 old screws turned out not in calf , normally they are the first to go back in calf:rolleyes:

We had about 4 not in calf (abot 8-9%) but this wasn't helped by our new bull hurting his lad in mid april- was fairly successful wit AI but destroyed the compact calving i'd been working on for the past few years...

just done the final pd today, a few unexpected ones, pd- but haven't seen them bulling. was hoping to come in under 10% empty. ended up 13% of the spring herd empty or 10% of the whole herd empty. havent entered them uyp on the computer yet but it is looking fairly compact. bull out for the last one to calve the end of april first few days of may.
hate calving in may, long enough as it is
