    Hi Guys,

Some interesting atmospheric conditions this morning - nothing digital, but analogue signals travelling way out of area:

Getting BBC2 on Ch40 (Ridge Hill), Five on Ch. 35 and 37. BBC2 and ITV1 (meridian) on 23 and 26. Also BBC2 on Ch.24 wherever that is coming from!

From this side Mt. Leinster (UHF) is wiped but Mullaghanish is on with lots of coi-channel on 27 and 31.

Interesting weather.... Plus the high pressure is around for the next few days and building.

Yes ducting is moderate to high for the rest of the week. Presely Ch 45 is coming in loud and clear as is Carden Hill. Though ch 55 the Dungarvan relay is off the air at present or atmospherics are interfering with the signal. In fact I've just checked I've got NO Irish DTT at present on the CH 55 52 and 22 where I normally get a good signal!

It'll be interesting to see how the week pans out.

Especially look out for some stray analogue signals spilling through from the south of England...

I was picking up Cairn Hill again this morning in the extreme south west of the Isle of Mann and had lost Three Rock / Kippure!

Just remembered that I was also getting TG4 on Ch. 63 - wherever that is coming from??

TG4 is on channel 63 on Spur Hill in Cork City. Would it get that far!?

It probably could... can't get any other of the channels due to co-channel with UK freeview services.

    Although, it could be Truskmore?

Picking up Freeview on 41 and 47 from Central Scotland here in Donegal, presumably Black Hill.

In North Co. Monaghan, have BBC1 Ch40 (Black Hill?) & co-channel on Ch37 (both Channel 5 from Black Mtn. & Black Hill).
Also have Channel 5 on Ch35 (Darvel).
    This on group A aerial.

Somewhat boring visitors here due to the group B amps but I'm curious as to what tx I'm getting hd services from on ch 48
Signal strength is 18% and quality is over 40% , yet they are working well.

    It's a welsh tx as it's got s4c cirlun

Com muxes flying in on 55

ch 45 presely has been coming in full strength and quality since yesterday.

    Must be Haverfordwest, near Fishguard.
Power is 100w. (according to ukfree site)
It's low powered but it's the only one with HD on C48.

That's quite a distance. Remember on one freak occasion picking up BBC Scotland when I lived just outside Armagh city.

I assume I'd get more of the Black Hill channels if I wasn't limited by the gp. A aerial. The other Darvel analogue are co-channel with Divis DTT.

That's quite a distance. Remember on one freak occasion picking up BBC Scotland when I lived just outside Armagh city.
I also picked up BBC Scotland down near Arklow with a wideband years ago in tropo.

Remember with dtt of course visiting channels are more obvious because your receiver is able to decode a signal that if it was equivalent power analogue would not be seen.
Thats the beauty of DTT decoding thresholds.
Also obviously todays modern tv's by default tell you automatically [unless you turn the function off] that new channels are available.
Some tv's with that function on like sony's actually populate the epg with the new channels automatically without asking.

Unhelpfully, the far away signals can over ride the local ones and this is not undone by the stronger local signal unless you fix it manually so be aware of that if you lose your normal uk freeview stations.
They are not gone,it's just that they have been overwrote by a visiting tempoarally stronger dtt signal.
In that case, you'll have to do a retune.

@ Tomslick-looks like haverford west alright.Same seapath as presely and presely was nuclear at the time.

This morning, as feared, Caradon Hill wiping out Arklow on Ch21, Redruth and 3 French muxes all booming in. Also some stray English muxes in the high 50's and 62?. I didn't have time to check them all. I thought that the UK DTT didn't go into the 60's or did I misread that somewhere.

A mate of mine in Ballynure, Co Antrim had an RTE NL MUX blasting in on Ch47for over an hour this evening.....never received it before.

Local news on this itv1 from the epg is granada reports [is it from the isle of man?)

Quality is 100% and signal strength is 60% !

Have Cairn Hill analogue fighting it out with Blackhill now.
    No digital though.

It's winter hill blasting into Arklow on ch 59 :)

No kippure either though due to winter hill tonight!

Haverfordwest now that's good! Especially at the power! I can see the mast and occasionally get Ch52 and 56 from there.

The signals are all over the place... FM a lot quieter tonight than earlier on... A bit of mist and fog could liiven things up a bit!!

Winter hill is a monster mast! But best DX in Wexford was Granada and Border TV coming in...

    Anyone spotted Blaenplwyf??

signal strength on arfon is an incredible 97% un amplified!
    Quality 85%

Yes analogue Black Hill is causing havoc with Cairn Hill analogue with which is it is co channel. A lot of outages on TV 3 channel 66 analogue Maghera tonight during The Apprentice.

    *Cairn Hill is often misspelt*.

I can confirm co-channel interference with analogue Cairn Hill at home in Louth. No details of what's being picked up though.

in the half hour after midnight I went through every UHF channel (analogue):

was getting at times watchable 'five' on Ch35, ITV on 41, Channel 4 on 47.
ITV had at best very broken teletext - however on P100 I did see the word East after ITV. These channels would quickly fade away, but could become watchable after a few minutes again
The above appear to be from the 'Sudbury' transmitter !
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudbury_transmitting_station
    a great distance to me.

Was also seeing an extremely weak something on Ch 24, not strong enough for sync to lock (rolling picture) - but comparing what I could see with digital satellite it was also ITV with The Zone. Before anyone suggests UTV, it would be a non-runner where I am, and 'The Zone' was not carried by UTV anyway.
looking at all the high power 24s again on this list
    http://www.wolfbane.com/uktv.htm
It would appear this was Sandy Heath, listed as 1 Megawatt ERP, from the same area of England as Sudbury.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Heath_transmitting_station.
Other channels Sandy Heath uses are not clear where I am (21 - DTT 27,31 analogue Mullaghanish).

The Dtt is redruth in cornwall I'd reckon.
There is someone in Kinsale actually reported a while back on digital spy that used get fair to good analogue UK channels from caradon hill in cornwall and who is now getting dtt from there on a regular basis ie usable.

Just a pity Darvel Freeview is co-channel with Divis & Brougher.
Can even see faint analogue picture on 23,26,29 & 33 which are also Divis Freeview muxes.
Can't say how this is affecting Divis because of nearby machinery causing interference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭byrnefm

    Hi,

any ideas what DTT mux might be on ch 44? I'm in Letterkenny and my Freeview box says there are no stations transmitting but it's quite a strong signal - as good as the Mux we receive Five from from Limavady.

It's the only new frequency we're seeing on DTT. Channel 5 from near Belfast is still quite watchable and Channel 4 Belfast (ch 21 UHF) is coming in better than the Limavady one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,177 ✭✭✭sesswhat

    Possibly Black Hill.

Black Hill and Darvel have been coming and going in Ballybofey for the past couple of days.

Well, it's been amazing here today!

This morning Mt. Leinster was totally wiped, got itv1 London from Crystal Palace... Then that was replaced by the PSB muxes from Stockland Hill.

TG4 is blasting in from Truskmore, even a snowy RTE1 on Ch.53 (where Carmel usually has a DTT mux!) and UTV from Divis on Ch. 24 this evening. Had Downtown on 96.6, Q101 and 6FM on 101.2. And Highland Radio on 102.1! Also got newstalk on 103.3 wherever that came from!

Just did a scan getting French DTT on Ch 36 France 3, 5 LCP. On the other hand all this ducting is causing havoc with Presely and Irish DTT. I've had no Irish DTT most of the day. Presely was fine until dark. Reception getting from Carden Hill and Redruth. Some Welsh DTT on Ch 53 ,56,59,62.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭darkmaster2

UTV from Divis(?) on c24 is coming in here very strongly.

Uhf Antenna is facing north towards maghera.
