are dealers allowed to give name/number of previous owner??

as title suggests, are dealers allowed to do this. I asked a dealer last week and he said he cant but if I knew a guard he could give me the info. Previous cars i bought the dealers had no issue with giving the name,address of previous owners.I have more piece of mind getting in touch with previous owner just to ask them…

as title suggests, are dealers allowed to do this. I asked a dealer last week and he said he cant but if I knew a guard he could give me the info. Previous cars i bought the dealers had no issue with giving the name,address of previous owners.I have more piece of mind getting in touch with previous owner just to ask them was it a lemon or nicked,crashed etc.

no, and rightly so imo
its a breech of data and while i wouldnt mind people ringing me for advice on my previouse car, but only if the dealer rang me first to ask if it was ok.
