poor quality pic as I was very far away and the pic is heavily cropped. I was so far away I wasn't sure if I was looking at a plastic bag at the time tbh:o Cormorant on the left I'm pretty sure but is that a variant of cormorant beside it or something else altogether?

Thanks Feargal, I knew you'd know :) I've never seen one so white before so didn't know if I was looking at something else altogether.

    Like a Great Auk? ;););)

Amazing variation in juvenile cormorants, but not in their close relative the shag.

:D You know from where I was standing it could have been anything from a penguin to a Dunnes bag :D Until I spotted the other cormorant I thought it could have been some kind of diver or something... size was hard to guage.
I was looking at pictures when i got home inc juvenile cormorants but didn't find anything quite so white breasted. Interestingly I came across this http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=1897366 on birdforum.net with reports of a lucidus cormorant in Belgium with someone reporting seeing a similar "looking" juvenile cormorant in Ireland. Pics of the belgian cormorant here http://waarnemingen.be/waarneming/view/45310081 (sorry I can never get the hyperlink thing to work).
But yes.... wouldn't it be nice to spot something unusual ;) I'll keep looking.
