    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Satellite-C650-1CN-Notebook-Celeron/dp/B003V4AQMY

    ~€358 delivered

Was given the task today of finding the cheapest New Notebook for my parents from a reputable Manufacturer and this seemed to be the best deal i could find.

The same laptop is EDIT: €450 in Argos atm:
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5083761.htm

(Got mixed up at first with a similar model for €400 that has an AMD processor, 1GB RAM here)

Failed to find any good 15" Notebooks (Asus or Toshiba only) for under €400 in Harvey Normans, PC World and Curry's.
PC World had another Toshiba with only 1GB of RAM for €400, but its out of stock for good, and had worse spec.

This one is suited to people on a really low budget, and for people who only use a laptop casually i.e Internet, MS Office, Music, Videos etc..

Don't expect it to run windows7 at very fast speeds or anything, but its more than capable of running it.

The amazon currency converter tries to bump the price up to €370, so you may be better off letting your credit card handle the conversion.

Will post a quick review once it arrives.

Argos have other laptops that may be better value, but most places seem to be out of stock atm:
    Argos

If you're in Cork and don't mind signing up for / changing to Eircom Broadband, then SoundStore may offer you a better deal.

Just thought i'd share my findings as they may be useful for other boardsies,
this may not be the deal of the century but the best i could find.

Some of its Weak Points (that are to be expected for the price) which should be taken into consideration:

Shared Graphics Memory as opposed to dedicated.
    No HDMI output (only VGA)
5400rpm Hard Disk Drive as opposed to a faster 7200rpm
    Only 2 USB ports.
    Entry level Celeron processor

    On the plus side:

    Dual-Core Celeron
Comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    RAM expandable to 4GB
    Reasonable Sized HDD - 250GB
Toshiba laptops are known for reliability
Has full Num-Pad on the Keyboard
    The Price

Did you order this for delivery to an irish address wavefrom?

Its just, a couple of weeks ago anyway, there were issues getting amazon to ship a laptop to an irish address

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056008973

It would be nice to see they are resolved! :)

Cheers for the heads up Zonda!

Yep, i ordered this to an Irish address, bought it from Amazon direct.

Super Saver Delivery was not offered due to my address being outside the UK, i think the shipping was just over £6.

It didn't give me the usual warning in red saying that it could not be delivered outside the UK, so I'm hoping now there will be no problem (fingies crossed). :)

In your thread spudwiser said he successfully bought a Toshiba laptop from them on the 26th of August, so theres some hope.

Maybe if enough Irish people ordered the damn thing they wouldnt stop it, heh heh! :p

Will update this thread on Monday when the order is processed.

Update: The order was processed yesterday and said sent via "An Post" and came with a tracking number.

It left port laoise yesterday so i presume it was dispatched from a Warehouse in Dublin.

It actually arrived just a while ago! Wasn;t expecting it til the end of the week.

The express delivery option said i could have had it by Today,

but looks like the standard post was the same speed.

Will post a mini review later today.

Can we get this marked expired basq?

Can an OP mark a thread as expired, or is it only a mod? Just for future reference.

This laptop feels very solid, especially the case and the screen.

The keys on the keyboard are the extremely flat type, when you put pressure on one key, the area around that key tends to get pushed in a bit, but only by 1mm or so, nothing dramatic.
They are nice and big though.

The processor runs fairly warm while multitasking but not hot by any means, for single tasks its mildly warm.
Theres a decent sized vent for the fan at the side, and another underneath.

The screen is widescreen which is great for watching movies,
but since its only 15.6"s diagonally, the vertical screen height is much shorter than older non-widescreen laptops,
which means more scrolling in websites or documents.

The touchpad is nice and wide to accomodate the screen and the click buttons are very big.

The DC plug on the charger is straight, not right angled, but its thicker than most and looks pretty robust.

There is a fair bit of 3rd party software that comes pre-installed with the laptop, such as Wild Tangent Games, Mc Affee Internet Security + Toolbar, Bing Toolbar, Nero utilities, Skype, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office Student & Home, Adobe Reader + Air and a lot of Toshiba applications.

So it takes a bit of uninstalling if you dont use most of those. Nothing too annoying though.(like Norton!)

When you hold down the fn key, the display that comes up is actually clickable,
so you can change the brightness etc.. with the mouse rather than being forced to use key combos. Its really nice.

I havent tested the battery life yet, but it takes a while to charge which is a good sign.

Its a really great laptop for the price.

The OP can for awhile after posting the thread, (think 24 hours) but after that, just report the post and one of us will change it. Quickest way to let us now :)
