Anybody used any of this gear before? Any good?

I got a jacket last year and leggings. Still going strong. Good quality. The leggings don't go as baggy as the Lidl ones.

I got one of those ultra light yellow jackets and have NEVER worn it. I found it too rustly and annoying.

I got a compression top too, but it shrunk a little in the wash. :(

The running tops are good if they are the same as last years. I saw a few people wearing them. I'm going to get one of them for myself. :)

Maybe I'm a snob/slace to the Asics Kayano machine but does anyone else feel uneasy about a running shoe priced at €19.99?
Would ye use them for a 15 mile run for example?

Would you prefer they re priced it at 100 like nike does? :D

Their most likely made in the same factory in India anyway, with Kayano's going out the front door and Aldi/Lidl going out the back:D

But to answer your question- Yes, I don't think I would run in 20 euro discount supermarket runners, maybe it's a bit of snobbery like you say, but I think when it comes to good runners you get what you pay for and your feet will thank you for it.

Run Forest Run – It’s the bulky overly cushioned and ultra supportive (= body restricting and posture manipulating) high-performance (high-price) runners that are causing us injuries and problems... you need to read Chris McDougall (Born to Run)... then you might start realising (like me only recently, the hard way) that it’s the highly pumped up expensive asics (etc) that are the problem – and it’s the cheap aldi/lidl runners that let our bodies run more free/naturally that don’t cause the injuries...

I might get one of those long-sleeved running tops, can’t go wrong. Wouldn’t like the leggings if they start going baggy though!

Was out of the country so sent the wife in to get one of those at Lidl but she came back with one of those small chest vests.....was going to get one here...was it that bad?
Might head to Decathlon in France to get some Kalenji gear...got their socks, togs, vests and leggings at this stage....
Anyone use sweat wristbands...I seem to sweat a lot which ainna gud for the eyes..

you think? perhaps he's right but I've been using Kayano for years and not a bother, only minor cramps etc to deal with. I suppose I'd need to test the theory with a cheap pair but I'm not willing to risk it.
But thanks for the book reference, I've just added it to my next Amazon order (which will, coincidentally include a pair of Asics Kayano 16).

Do get the book, highly recommend. Fair enough about the runners... I agree with all the theory also; very credible... but also not ready to 'risk it' by going for cheapies with little/no support. I'm still in my Asics kinsei's with custom orthotics.... but since only recently starting to wear very light asics spikes for XC, the ultra lightweight, flat and non-bulky spikes make me run with no restrictions and more efficiently. There's no doubt that the bulkier runners force us to manipulate our motions be it good/bad ways. But with injuries there are too many factors... anyway back to the thread topic - hope you all get some run-gear in Aldi tomorrow after-all.. and if anyone does get the runners, do let us know your verdict after a few runs :)

I was in Lidl over the weekend, and they had some interesting looking running shoes. They were quite chunky looking, a bit like trail shoes, with good grip. I'm sorry I didn't buy a pair now, as they might have been a decent alternative to spikes for cross country.

talk about coincidence but the author of Born to Run (Christopher McDougall) was being interviewed on 'Off the Ball' last night. Very interesting guy.
I've ordered the book from Amazon (funnily enough, there's a pair of Asics Kayano in the same order )

If you don't fancy any of the gear in Aldi or Lidl you can can still get to Decathlon easily for some bargains. There is a new one opened a short while back near the IKEA store outside Belfast.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time there though, I found it tough to leave.

picked up a load of gear in Aldi near nutgrove this evening - there was plenty left too - supposed to be freezing next week so it's good timing

Might scoot over tomorrow morning. My mother got me some of the bottoms and the jacket from Lidl last week as well.

What podcast is that? The only one I can find on iTunes is a Newstalk football one and it doesn't seem to have Christopher McDougall listed on the description.
