Anybody have any suggestions? It can be anywhere in the country. It's for c. 180 - 200 people. The Bayview Hotel in Ballycotton in east Cork was stunning but only held 110 people.

    All suggestions welcome.

the carlton redcastle hotel in donegal is stunning and offer brilliant packages (details on their website) half what you're being quoted in cork. beautiful modern - recently refurbished hotel situated on the coast, function room has large floor to ceiling windows looking out to the water - gorgeous setting for a wedding.

also look at the inishowen gateway hotel in buncrana co donegal, beautiful seaside town, hotel looking out on lough swilly, beautifully decorated and with fantastic wedding packages for again half what you're being quoted.

we priced both these hotels for our wedding & both negotiated on price so don't be afraid to push them for all you can if talking to them. in the end we opted for redcastle - and setting was the reason as we are marrying in the hotel & the views are beautiful as a backdrop to our ceremony but the gateway was a very close second.

    good luck

    Garryvoe, a proven venue.

    Garryvoe, a proven venue.

Excellent venue. State of the art facilities and in practice you get exclusivity as the regular clientèle go to a bar with a separate door far from the function room. Superb banqueting room, and a General Manager that you could do business with. The bridal suite et al were in a league of their own.

However, there is no garden in the entire place, which was a shock. The landscape between the hotel and the sea was not exactly, well, landscaped. And the mobile homes on both sides were not easy on the eye.

(Garryvoe and the Bayview Hotel in Ballycotton, 6km away, are owned by the same company)

We are going checking this place out next week. Gave us an excellent room rate as well as we are travelling from Cork. Heard lots of good things about it.

Galway Bay or the Salthill Hotel in Galway?
Both have great reputaion for weddings and are on the promenade and can cater to big parties

Connemara Coast Hotel is more secluded (maybe 20min drive from city) but I've no idea what they're like for weddings

We viewed the broadhaven bay hotel and it was fab. really fab and the food was great. Right on the coast too and they have a great package on offer with absolutely everything included.

I was at a wedding in Roundstone in a yurt on the basketball court. Couldn't get a better view, and it held a huge crowd.

Does it absolutely have to be coastal? Tulfarris, on the Blessington lakes, is stunning and can cater for up to 250.

I came across Dunmore House Hotel in the wilds of West Cork recently. What a stunning view. Inchydoney is across the bay from it, but Dunmore House Hotel is on a cliff and has a much better view. It's much more wild and rugged there.

I never heard of it before but it was packed and upon enquiries elsewhere it has a huge reputation for good food. The only downside which we could see was the function room which had a couple of old electric heaters sticking out of the wall like something by local church installed in 1982. It also had dark black curtains so one would wonder about the thought put into the interior decor. In fact, these two issues put herself off the hotel despite being amazed by the view.

Nevertheless, this is the first hotel I've seen which has coastal views almost equal to Ballycotton.

My brother had his wedding there a couple of years ago and I couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough. Spanish Point beach is fabulous for pictures as well.

Another lovely hotel is the Connemara Coast Hotel in Galway

My husband and I used to go to Inchydoney Island & Spa and that is very nice too!
