PS3 YLOD Service? Kinda?

Hey there, my PS3 has been going loud recently (probably gathered a lot of dust inside and the thermal compound is dry as hell. I still didn't get the YLOD but I know it's very close to getting it.
    It's a 40GB.
Does anyone know someone who could disassemble it, replace the thermal compound and clean it up inside? I will not do it myself as I've broken my PS3 once (I damaged the power supply).

You could ask one of these companies, http://consolerepairsireland.ie/ or http://www.consolerepaircentre.ie/

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much it costs to get the YLOD repaired?

    Cheers.

Cost me €80 and was guaranteed for 3 months.

Aye and most don't last 6 mths from date of repair, so unless you are unscrupulous and want to fix it to sell it, you are better off putting the 80 yoyos towards a new slim imho.

It actually lasted ~2 weeks. But when I got it back I was able to back up my HDD and played it til it died.
    Bought a slim.
Actually, now that I think of it, there is still a 500GB HDD in that PS3. Must get it out and get a caddy.

Aye, helped you out of a spot, but unless you have to rescue data or similar, it's not worth spending cash on YLOD repairs as they simply don't last.

Knew it wouldn't last but I had a lot of stuff on the HDD that I had hoped to recover.
    I did, so job done.

Just to let you know, I did it all by myself :D
35 minutes of work including the replacement of compound, cleaning inside and putting it back together :)

Only a few parts. I used PS3 40GB STRIPDOWN - GILKSY video on YouTube.

I just posted this on another thread...
I agree with avoiding the lads in Tallaght. I got the YLOD and brought it to them. They fixed it and when I got it back it was working but it kept on asking me to set the date and time every time I turned it on. Anyways it was working for about a week when the YLOD reared it's ugly head again. So I got them to "repair" it again and the next time I got it back, they didn't bother to reconnect the fan! So I decided to look up a few vids and fix that myself which wasn't too hard but when I opened it up, I could see that they didn't reconnect the battery lead which was causing the date / time issue. I reconnected that and it was fine. The PS3 probably worked for another week before the YLOD came back again. That's when I decided to get a refurbished PS3 which is what I should have done in the first place. I think if you are getting a YLOD on your PS3, you are only delaying the inevitable by getting it fixed. You're probably better off doing what I did and getting a refurbished version cause for me, getting it fixed was like rolling up €60 and throwing it in the bin.

They probably did it DIY. I've used a professional reballing service for YLOD including fan replacement and motherboard fluxing. The 60GB lasted for another 1.5 years before the Blu-Ray drive broke. I just got a used 40GB instead and replaced the HDD with a 160GB one.

Sounds good. Where did you get that done? Console Pro's? I never heard of them when my PS3 died. Sounds pricey though. How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

I did abroad. Costed me only 40 euro to get it fixed.
