Is there an appetite for more good, and I mean really good coffee shops in Dublin and Ireland in general?

Or are people happy to just take what they're served in a shop.

Personally I've been served some utter rubbish over the years. Burnt coffee is not good people!

I was in town the other day and stumbled across a place called salt and pepper I think it was on abbey street.

The guy serving the coffee that day was friendly the atmosphere was something like out of an Amsterdam coffee shop and not our kind of coffee shop which was strange but my god the coffee was spectacular.

They use hasbean coffee and seemingly the guy running/owning it has won Barista awards of some sort.

Anyway if you havent been I couldnt recommend it highly enough I really couldnt.

So back to my original query could we do with a few more shops like this? When I was in that particular one it was by no means packed whereas I'm sure if I wandered to Starbucks up the road it'd have loads of people in it. :(

I've always thought that if I started a coffee shop it'd be like that one salt and Pepper, quality ingrediants, trained barista, but I'd have a different style of shop more modern I suppose.

Anyway whats your thoughts on all of this..

are you talking about Colin Harmon and 3FE?

This thread should help with what peoples opinions are of the Dublin coffee scene:

The more shops like 3FE the better - unfortunately though 99% of those visiting coffee shops have probably never experienced what properly and freshly roasted/ground/poured coffee tastes like and therefore will continue to purchase at the chains.

Across the pond mega-chain Starbucks is squeezing out a lot of the cool sole proprietor coffee houses unfortunately.

must be the same one. But when I saw it the name above the shop was "Salt and Pepper" I think not "3FE"

Savage place though. Really top notch.

    There's need for both imo.

For example, 3FE doesn't open til 10 now, so I go elsewhere for my morning coffee and the "ethos" that they don't want people going in just for a caffeine hit kind of irritates me.

    ??

We don't open before ten because it was really quiet.

    That's the only reason.

Is it the same place then as this 3FE place people are talking about?

    Why the different names?

    I'm confused.

Different names because its actually a Venue/Nightclub by night and during the day it becomes a Coffee "Venue"(shop/cafe is the wrong word for it)
