Tax on second job

I have recently taken a second job which is essentially part time ( some weeks I have full time hours while other weeks my hours are much reduced).
My other job is also part time. I am paying the higher rate of tax in my new job but I am no where near earning the amount of money that would bring me into that bracket, even when the two jobs are combined.

Is it normal to pay this higher rate when you take on a second job? Will I receive a tax rebate at the end of the year with my p60?

Yes it is common to be charged at the higher rate on your second job becuase you are probably on emergency tax. I doubt your second employer has a list of your tax credits so they are charging 41% tax as well as PRSI and the levies on all income.

You probably wont receive a rebate at the end of the year but you might have to wait a while to get it back. Revenue can take a bit of time when it comes to refunds. However the goods news is that your will get it back. You should be able to apply for a p21 balancing statement in January to get the refund :cool:

You can request the tax office to split your tax credits between your 2 jobs. That way you will pay a little less tax on the second job and a little more on the first.

Thanks for the advice. However should I get a P60 from each employer? A P60 usually deals with one individual employer.
