VRT PRICES???

    Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase a Smart Fortwo 09 Brabus from the UK as they are impossible to find here.

However, I've checked on revenue.ie VRT prices, and for some reason the exact model I am looking for isnt listed.

I've found a car similar to it (although a few years older) and the VRT on it is 2992 €.

I rang revenue who re-directed me to someone from VRT (I think) and the guy basically told me that IF the vehicle is not on the list (vrt website) then the ONLY way I can find out the price is by them inspecting the car.

This means that I need to buy the car from the UK and drive it over here BEFORE I find out what VRT I pay.

That sounds rediculous, and I wouldnt mind paying 2-3K for VRT but I'm afraid they will quote me any figure they want on the day and I dont want to have a car that I can afford to VRT!!

    Help needed!!!

    thanks! :)

Be very carefull, i brought in a Z3 M Coupe years ago and they did not have them on the system and i rang them and emailed and the usual, told me the same thing they said it would be about 3k...

Went over got the car came home brought it in and they tried to charge me 6500, told me i had to pay it cause ya cant have the car in the country for longer than 24 hours and then i might get some of my money back.....

Luckily i kept the email quote they gave me and went in and the woman changed it for me, think it was really cause back then they did not really know what they were doing but they are alot stricter now.....

I'd say best rough guess would be figure out the cost of the highest priced one you can find in england, add at least 30% then work out the VRT based on the emission ratings for that car.
