I heard people go to places like South Korea and Dubai.

Mate, the teaching in South Korea thread is good for this kind of information. It's two posts above yours. -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055471189

Sorry I don't know anything about teaching anywhere else besides Japan and as far as I know you're better off financially in Korea. Although it's been a while since I've worked in Japan. I also think the demand is much higher here in Korea.

You'd be making better money in Japan but the cost of living is higher. Both japan and Korea are amazing places regardless. Not many people get into tefl to make bags of money anyway :)

From my own experience the standard wages in Japan are indeed higher but because of the lack of free accommodation and the cost of living, Korea ends up financially better. Especially when you consider getting jobs on the side. Japan is (was anyways) becoming more 'European' in the way they work whereas Koreans just seem to be getting worse. Working more hours and studying for extra skills (usually English) in their quite short free-time.

Before I came here I always assumed Japanese people worked the longest hours in the world due to the media. Boy was I wrong. The Koreans destroy them and everyone else by far, working over 400 hours more than the next country. Good for English teachers who want to work more hours as someone will want to learn English throughout the day from 6am to 1am the next day.

And that's whats clocked. A lot of companies expect (force) employees to work for free on Saturdays. My wife has to do this twice a month. Not only does it ruin our weekend but she doesn't even get paid for it.

The Won is quite weak though these days, or so I thought. If you want to save money to send home surely the Yen is a better bet? Every situation is different I guess. In both countries you will live comfortably teaching English.

Absolutely no sign of Japanese work ethic becoming more European where I live :D Teachers and students alike put in insane hours. Free time doesnt really exist as a concept here. There is work time and there is sleep time :D

I have a Bachelor and Masters Degree in English and have applied to teach english in Malaysia through Chase Recruiting. I have an interview next Wednesday. They're offering 3,000 pounds a month and other perks. This all seems too good to be true and I've no friends with experience who can advise me. Has anyone out there thought in Malaysia who could offer some advice? Are there other places I should go?? Help!!

3000 British pounds?? That sounds very unrealistic. Make sure you Google the hell out of it to make sure its legit.

I know in Peru English teachers get around $1500 a month. I know Asia is higher though, but not that much higher.
