    Details of this event here

Looks very interesting but I've mixed feelings about this. Much as I applaud the work of the mountain rescue, the reg fee and min charitable collection fee comes to 100 euro. A bit steep in a world when we are hit every few weeks by a worthy cause. :( If the total was in the €50 mark I'd be more inclined to take part but a €100 I don't know... I'm saying this as someone who has very willingly contributed to mountain rescue before and I will again but a balance has to be struck somewhere.

I'm with you there SJ. 50 quid combined fee would be more palatable. 25 for the organisers 25 for mountain rescue. To be honest I'm more likely to pay the fee myself rather than fund raise from friends. I'm not having a go at Mountain Rescue. They do an excellent job and it's great to see them in action or just to have them there in case something does happen.

If people are fundraising they'll hardly stop at 50 quid on the button. Why not have 50 quid as the minimum but have people aim for 100 quid? People who are paying directly themselves would pay 50.

Looks like a great notion, especially on a clear night.

A good compromise might be to donate an amount you are happy with directly to Mountain Rescue instead and just do the run yourself during the daytime over the winter.
Another option would be to sponsor one of the many hillrunners doing this event that you know personnally who is happy to undertake the awful task of fundraising.

As hillrunners this is the one charity we are all indirectly depending on every time we organise a race.
    Happy hillrunning!

Good idea Peter. Tell you what SJ - I'll sponsor you 25 quid to do this. Next year you can sponsor me! :D

It's like when you get your dad to go a tenner on the first line of the sponsorship card:)

G'wan so, another €25 for Mick then..two thirds of the way there..

Lads, charity recruitment is against the charter...

... except when its press-ganging, like you're doing to SJ:D Agree, €100 is too much, but Mountain Rescue is vital for giving us the freedom to run around the hills. Good idea Peter to send at least one Boards emissary. I'll go another €25 so Mick can be our representative.

Does anyone know if the course will be fully marked or is there an element of navigation to it?

Instructions on the mountain rescue link that was in the 1st post. The route is waymarked. Some of the Wicklow way signs can be difficult to see at the best of times, so this could be problematic at nighttime, so you'd want to have your wits about you and/or be well versed with the route. There will be signage to mark the turn off the Wicklow way before Laragh down to the finish.

Looking forward to this. Hope the clouds keep away. It would be surreal running from Djouce under a full moon reflected onto Lough Tay.

Weather so far so good. Cloud, wind and rain stay away please. Run should start 6ish from Crone wood. Looking forward to it.

Great evening! The moon was hidden behind clouds for much of it but it was a still cool evening perfect for running.

Organisation was first class. Running was excellent. I struggled from near Oldbridge onwards. Not being 100% fit and running on a long stretch of road here in inov8s was not what the body wanted. Runners were few and far between but the lack of runners was made up by crowds of walkers. All told nearly 300 took part. I guessed a 2 hrs 30 time for me before I started and I was a couple of mins the wrong side of that. Ran all the way, even if very slowly towards the end. The ultrafire headtorch was perfect equipment for it. Happy enough and it all helps a good cause. Well done Paul Mahon, 1st home.
