Hi im wondering if Labour or FG got into power will they be able to look back into the shenanigans that has gone on in this country and maybe help us along the way a bit better.

Are they to blame for some of this current mess (did they object massively to FF policies that have totally hit the fan)

Should we leave FF in power till next planned election so they cant do a Bertie and leave at their own accord and blame others. I know we are getting in deeper every day but that way we might finally be rid of FF and it will be the people who sent them packing. Could FF actually stay in power. Ive never heard anyone say anygood bout them in last 5 years (obvious internet trolls and "plants" excluded)

i'm not sure why the opposition would be to blame for the mess FF created through lax banking regulation, zero controls of cost in any state departments, huge increases in expenditure which wasnt sustainable in the long term and the introduction of so many tax breaks designed to benefit the very wealthy and/or FF donators.

on the plus side hasnt Biffo promised an enquiry into the banking crisis...oh yeah but that's to be held in private

To be honest, in answer to the question posed in your thread title - I would say no.
Based on what I seen and heard of all politicians so far.

Pre the last election, didn't the opposition promise that same type of spend today, like there is no tomorrow. Just like FF did.

They are all the same. Better off with the ICA running the country. At least we would have nice queen cakes for tea:D

I sat with the 15yr old & the 8 yr old discussing economics....

Between the 2 of them they had more ideas to push this country forward than any of the politicians no matter whether they are FF or whoever.

Like one could understand why you would go to the North for a lower VAT rate than here, like why you would buy cigarettes on holidays when 200 cost s less than 1 packet here. Like why no employment is being created. Like why increase taxes if it decreases spending power so less VAT is received by the Government.. These are kids for heavens sake So I dont believe any party no matter who they are will expose anything - Things I think will stay as they are purely as its a culture that none of them want to change from

I suppose sometimes us humans (politicians obviuosly not included ) make simple things complicated

I think FF will try not to improve the deficit too much, simply because they know they are out of a job in 6-9 months. then when the FG or L get in, they will start cutting back and FF will start complaining they they are ruining the country and sending us into a depression. That way the FF have a chance of getting back into power the election after the that.

IMHO FG and Labour will be slow to implement changes/cutbacks simply because they will be thinking that it would be unpopular too, and how it will effect their chances on staying in power once they are in it.

The same seems to be happening with the Tories in the UK, they got in on the basis of how bad Labour were, and how they were going to make lots of cuts and get everything in shape, but now they are thinking about delaying things. I think the opposition here will act similar. But I hope I am proven wrong

ONE OF THE VERY SMART MEMBERS OF GOVERNMENT SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THISMORNING AND IF YOU DONT KNOW 4.3 IS 4.3BILLION TAKE A READ OF THIS

Cabinet Minister appears to have let the cat out of the bag on the amount of savings the Government is hoping to make in the Budget - €4.3bn.

Ministers met yesterday for the first in a series of meetings specifically aimed at discussing how much they can save, as the countdown continues to Budget Day on December 7.

Social Protection Minister Eamon O'Cuiv was answering questions on Green Party leader John Gormley's proposal for an all-party approach to sorting the country's finances today, when he mis-spoke.

He said: "We will have a month…to discuss how we will achieve the 4.3…sorry… the 3% of GDP target that we need to achieve."

Quite clever to let the cat out of the bag if you ask me... now we are prepared without a big build up.

he didn't mean to let it out thats the funny thing he's just like the rest of them i won't say because i'll be banned but its funny the way there not taking pay cuts and the job quirks cost more that most peoples salaries in this climate thats a disgraceful.
For example last month the deputy minister for education decided to take a private to belfast for an meeting to discuss possible irish been thought in northern irish schools.
The cost of the governments jets flight to belfast was valued a 9,000 euros don't ask me how but thats what the herald said.

This country is snowballing and it'll get worse when this budget comes in and mass immergration to australia and other places like will still be happening and nothing them lot will do to stop it and nothing biffo and the drunk crew can do about it but tax people.

I'm not sure that politicians on either side of the debate are willing to expose the truth.

They may say that they intend to change and amend how the system works but in reality, the Civil Sevice create and operate policy in this country.

If a politician/polital party said that they were prepared to amend the civil service I might have some faith.

    amend the civil service

and the "social partners"? Hard to see Labour tackling the trade union bureaucrats although Rory Quinn's proposal to break up FÁS was a hopeful signb.

I really doubt it. I find it amazing we spent 800 years trying to get the English and many still harbour animosity towards the said group of people while all I can see is we put our faith in people who are currupt. Our country has been destroyed by people who any chance they get they are out for nothing but themselves. Take, take take, and some of the time illegally.

I am FF and that means I am a troll and a plant ? I have a lot of good to say about FF and I am the only person in the country who has done so ?
Can I remind you the ABFF have not won an election since 1982 and have lost the last 6 elections in a row.
What mess ? The country went in to recession after the greatest period of economic prosperity in our history. Be honest, would you reverse every single thing that happened under FF ? Would you say FF were stupid to allow 1m extra to join the workforce ? Do you belive FF should have kept the lid on things by making sure we had an unemployment rate of no less than 10% ? Do you believe FF should have kept a minimum of 100b in reserve for the certain recession and rainy day ?
These are just a few of the many questions the stupid ABFF refuse to answer. Its such a pity the ABFF do not switch on their brains before they open their silly mouths !

    Article from the times

THE PROVISION of Garda drivers and State cars to Cabinet Ministers, former taoisigh, the President, Chief Whip, Ceann Comhairle and others has cost almost €11 million in the past two years, it has emerged.
This represents expenditure of €105,000 per week, or €15,000 per day. Fine Gael has vowed to end the practice of supplying the cars and Garda drivers, saying if it were in government a car pooling system would be introduced.
The party’s transport spokesman, Simon Coveney TD, said a Fine Gael government would also introduce a system where cars would be driven by civilians, with Garda drivers used only for the taoiseach and minister for justice. Those entitled to drivers and cars would also be encouraged to drive themselves in their own cars and claim mileage for their journeys.
Fine Gael said it would cut by half the cost of providing cars and drivers.
Mr Coveney used written Dáil questions to Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to obtain details of the cost of providing the cars and Garda drivers to 27 office holders and former office holders.
He said it was “incredible” that €10.9 million had been spent on the cars and drivers in the past two years at a time when the Republic was “on its knees”.

Bunch lying morans only in the job for the quirks!!

If it wasn't for legal representative for the irish times this information would not have been put into the public

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭macannrb

And the FG car pooling idea would still only take maybe a 1/3 or 1/2 of the expenditure. If they bother to keep their promise once they get into power next year. If only we could trust politicians
