It depends. It is very possible to teach yourself how to set one up, there are open source scripts like zencart, be prepared to put in a lot of time in learning the ins and outs of it though, but you could have a site up and running with paypal in a couple of weeks if you set your mind to it. Most of the open source/free shopping cart software have lots of template which are also free or very cheap, and their forums have pretty much every question you have answered already. Heres a wikipedia list, I think zencart, osCommerce, magento and virtuemart would be the most popular (personally id recommend zen-cart) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_and_open_source_eCommerce_software. Oh and if you do all this yourself you will need hosting and a domain name, you can get them from loads of places, www.blacknight.ie is one reliable one

A problem comes in if you need to accept laser. Then you'll need an additional payment processor and merchant account which you'll have to jump through a fair few hoops with your bank to get. Although a place called moneybookers do allow you to accept laser, they work like paypal but im not sure what they're like. Check out www.webpayments.ie to learn more!

If you want to get someone to do all this for you, it'll prob cost you around €2,000 but will be much quicker and save you're own time and headaches!

If you're looking to start small, ebay is always a good starting point to test the market and get some customers in. Watch out for the fees though, they are fairly big.

Oh and best of luck with your project!
