guys, can an employer "allocate" four days out of twenty of your annual leave days for time over the christmas period when the establishment in question would be closed, thereby forcing you to take paid leave at a time when you would be on unpaid holidays anyway? thanks,

Yes they can, its common practise as they are only obliged to close on proscribed holidays but most companies close for Christmas and take the extra days out of annual leave. Has happened in all the companies I worked.

Same here, 4 days annual leave gone because of xmas, not complaining as I'd like them off anyway and have plenty left throughout the year.
